Are You Ready For This
I wrote this for my oldest daughter who just graduated from high school. It is at once both a father's wish and lament. Starts off slow, but rocks out at the end.

Lyrics
Verse 1:
Eighteen birthdays come and gone, faster than preferred
All your years of growing up seem, nothing but a blur.
One moment you’re a toddler, racin’ ‘cross the floor.
The next you’re off to college, and racin’ out my door.
Chorus 1:
So are you ready for this…to take a giant step?
So are you ready for this…to begin another trek?
We can only watch as you take aim at the stars
Are you ready for this? I’ll bet you are.
Verse 2:
I’ve always joked that I’d be dead and gone before these days.
I knew how much it’d tear me up, to see you walk away.
You’ve learned so many lessons, scraped a lotta knees.
And as I turn to look at you, I couldn’t be more pleased.
Chorus 1:
So are you ready for this…to take a giant step?
So are you ready for this…to begin another trek?
We can only watch as you take aim at the stars
Are you ready for this? I’ll bet you are.
Verse 3:
As you pack up all those memories that fit you like a glove
Like those silly little rabbits, worn threadbare by your love
Don’t forget important things like faith and hope and trust.
And maybe save a bit of room for a little bit of us.
Chorus 2 (different):
Not sure I’m ready for this…to see your empty room
Not sure I’m ready for this. It’s all happening too soon.
As you’re heading off into your future’s blinding glare.
Am I’m ready for this? Now let’s be fair….
Am I ready for this?....Not a prayer.
