About the song
This song is the quintessence of "retro", recalling such mid-60's hits as "96 Tears" with just a bit of early 90's grunge thrown in for seasoning. This recording of "Call and Response" first appeared on the unreleased "Eclectic City" album and has been polished for inclusion in Fictitious Fishes.
Lyrics
I've come unhinged
I've come unglued
I've fallen out of my head in a hopeless quest for truth
I've gotten stripped
I've been unthawed
I'm throwing out what I know for a chance at feeling awed
Should've made a lot of money
Could've made a brainless flick
Write another self-help pop psychosis book
Or write another song with call and response
Call and response
Call and response
I'm on the bench
I'm doing time
I stand accused by a ghost who won't reveal my crime
I've come unhinged
Oh yeah, unglued
I've fallen out of my head in a hopeless quest for truth
Should've made a lot of money
Could've made a brainless flick
Or write another self-help pop psychosis book
Or write another song with call and response
Call and response
Call and response
[Kazoo solo]
I've come unhinged
I've come unglued
And you know what else? I wrote a book, too, and I went on television and said "you should buy this book", and you all went out and bought the book, and now I'm going to retire young. I'm going to be a millionaire before I'm 35. I'm going to move to your expensive neighborhood. I'm going to stay up all night mowing my lawn in my pink bunny slippers, and you're going to look out the window and say "he's crazy," and I'm going to say, "I'm not crazy! I'm eccentric! 'Cause I've got so much money!" And you're going to say, "He spends all of his money going to shows, and drinking beer, and listening to the guy on stage, and yelling 'FOGHAT!!!'"
