About the song
Told from a barstool, "Song for Austin" is a vignette describing the mood in Austin after the tech bubble burst. An out-of-work Austinite finds solace in the place where he lives-- and a pint-- even when it seems that the rest of the world is falling down and he doesn't know what to do or say that will change it.
Lyrics
Red skies Monday morning
Red eye, should've took warning
My future was so clear
Lost my job, lost my money
Crapped out in the land of milk and honey
I don't have a single fear
Time to change my career
This just ain't my year
The top down, drivin' around town
Two busted speakers, but it sounds alright loud
Slipped down to the G. Man for a beer
Stop your moaning, quit your pissing
The whole world's stopped to listen
But you don't know what to say
You didn't change a thing today
You opted to just complain
C'mon all you Austinites
Let's hear your voice tonight
Don't let the news get you down
If just for one night it will be alright
A beautiful sound to hear 'round town
Don't let me down
Ignoring the people's referenda
The warmen pursue their own agenda
I just wish I'd had a say
Stop your moaning, quit your pissing
The whole world's stopped to listen
But you don't know what to say
You didn't change a thing today
You opted to just complain
Mother Liberty is trying to incite
The oily whore, she's trying to pick a fight
I never met an Iraqi I didn't like
The guitar Mikey was learning
Got called up, and now he's serving
And he's got a baby on the way
I wish I could hear him play
But now he's a world away
I wish I could hear him play
Red eye, should've took warning
My future was so clear
Lost my job, lost my money
Crapped out in the land of milk and honey
I don't have a single fear
Time to change my career
This just ain't my year
The top down, drivin' around town
