About the song
Samuel Osborne Barber II;
Born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, March 9, 1910, Barber died of cancer in New York City, January 23, 1981, at the age of 70. He was buried in Oaklands Cemetery in his hometown.

Adagio for Strings, his most famous work, was composed in 1936, and arranged for string orchestra in 1938, from the second movement of his String Quartet, Op. 11.

The piece begins with a B flat played by violins, leading to the lower strings' entrance. The rhythm is mainly compressed with sustained notes, and Barber uses some unusual time signatures including 4/2, 5/2, 6/4, and 3/2.
Samuel Barbers Adagio for Strings has become one of the most recognizable pieces of American concert music.
