About the song
The song is titled 1953 because it is dedicated to Dr Alfred C. Kinsey, who in 1953 redefined the word "normal" by making the American public aware of depraved and deviant sexual behavior that takes place all the time in bedrooms across North America. This lead to a systematic re-defining of social moral standards that finally culminated in the free-love movement of the late 1960's.
Coincidentally…Playboy magazine also began in 1953.
As you would expect, Dr Kinsey did not live to see this mass acceptance of his philosophies. As you would also expect…fundamentalist Christians are still trying to discredit his work and portray him as the cause of the all moral decay in our society.
I feel that this is quite unfair criticism because regardless of Kinseys motives…he was one of the few people in modern times who dared to change people's perceptions and attitudes on such a vast scale. For this alone he should be praised.
In the late 1940's, to do say what he said, was akin to people trying to prove that the world wasn't flat a few hundred years ago. I admire his bravery in forcing people to face the reality instead of constantly ignoring it.
The pedophiles Kinsey studied were probably Priests anyway and I have no time for religious zealots and their hypocrisy. Taking shots at someone who has been dead 50 years is sad and pathetic. Just because Kinsey made people aware of sexual infidelity does not absolve individuals from their responsibility to think for themselves and make decisions about weather or not they would like to engage in such activities.

WTF!…The actual Kinsey Institute still exists!

An essay that is critical of Dr Kinsey...describing some of Kinsey's own disturbing fetishes…

Lyrics
I wasn't around in 1953 so I couldn't...but I went back there the other day and Kinsey (Pictured) was a sexual deviant...not a poet...so he was no help to me...nor was Elvis because all Elvis wanted to do was thrust his hips at me when I asked him to help me write lyrics for this... so I got sick of it all and jumped back in my time machine and came home.
