About the song
Had the MT-40 riff for ages but Edward and myself didn't know what to do with it. Accidentaly made an 80s chorus guitar sound so I wrote the Jazz-Fusion section as a result...then I wrote the VL-5 riff that appears in the end and the fake tapping on the CS-01...still the song was pretty boring but I realised that I'd done everything on my most vintage equipment...anyhow Lucas dropped in one night after work and on his way to rehearsal so I asked him to record some van-halen sounding lead guitar. Anyway i soon cut it all up and remixed it and it has been pumping my nads ever since. Didn't add vocals because there was no space to put them.
Now it's more of a rock song it so it doesn't really fit the Reverse Engineers chip music agenda. But we'll probably play a non guitar version at our shows if I can bring the MT-40.
The title directly relates to a section of the Reverse Engineer's manifesto where we discuss the mid/late 80's keyboard wars where Yamaha and Casio fought for control of the professional and hobby synthesizer markets.
Anyhow, in this fight for supremacy they developed all these new technologies like Phase Distortion, Spectral Distortion, Frequency modulation, PCM sampling and Wavetable synthesis but personally I still prefer old pre-84 /pre-MIDI technology (Casio's Consonant Vowel system and Yamaha's Analog w/ DCO)).
