About the song
I finally, after 15 years, wrote a song for my wife. This song started years ago while noodling around in Kent, Ohio with the late Patty Donahoe of the Waitresses.
Lyrics
Met her in a Goodwill store she was trying on hats
That was fifteen years ago, now look where I'm at
She was crazier than dogbite man, a loony in a summer frock
Now our kids are crazy too, we've got the happiest house on the block

Don't turn your porch light on
I don't need to be seen
You're not the kind of girl a boy like me should see
If you keep this up everyone will know about me

A whole lot of water has passed under all the bridges that I've burned
These days I just hang around the house waiting for the milk to turn
She and I sit side by side on the front porch every night
Watching the kids and the cars go by
And I always leave on the light

Don't turn your porch light on
I don't need to be seen
You're not the kind of girl a boy like me should see
If you keep this up everyone will know about me

It took me so long to find
That kind of peace of mind...

Now I leave my porch light on, the light shines every night
I get happy when I get home and all of that light feels right
I get to watch my children play as the evening closes in
Everywhere I go today is better than where I've been

Turn your porch light on
I need to be seen
You're just the kind of girl a boy like me should see
You kept it up and everyone knows about me
