About the song
This song was mainly inspired by the ideas of a philosopher and teacher of dancing from Eastern Europe. The lyrics try to speak to that part of us which wants more from life than our mere secular existence and seeks to work towards resolving our inner contradictions.
Lyrics
Time To Take A Drink
To choose between the slavery
of madness and of truth
When sweetness can tell lies
whereas some honesty is uncouth.
Sensing more than thinking
is a surer guide by far
When words alone cannot reveal
in essence what we are
Chorus
The waters in the stream in yonder valley,
Where life is lived more normally than here,
Are calling to you, think
Is it time to take a drink
For all ephemeral things must disappear?
The worst of it is over now,
the anguish fades away
The dark night of the soul, it claimed
an angel couldn't stay.
The sorrow in your heart, it meets
the joy inside your head,
The temple's pillars strengthened now
the groom is to be wed.
Chorus twice
To choose between the slavery
of madness and of truth
When sweetness can tell lies
whereas some honesty is uncouth.
Sensing more than thinking
is a surer guide by far
When words alone cannot reveal
in essence what we are
Chorus
The waters in the stream in yonder valley,
Where life is lived more normally than here,
Are calling to you, think
Is it time to take a drink
For all ephemeral things must disappear?
The worst of it is over now,
the anguish fades away
The dark night of the soul, it claimed
an angel couldn't stay.
The sorrow in your heart, it meets
the joy inside your head,
The temple's pillars strengthened now
the groom is to be wed.
Chorus twice
