Carrie Carryin' Me
A half of a rough demo done to archive the basics of the song when I still only had the first half written.

About the song
This one is a combination of real and created events. I never went out with a "Carrie", and I didn't get my first "real" kiss until I was 17. (Pathetic ain't it?)
All the names of places are real. We had a Johnson Creek, an Old Stone Road, and I attended White Oak High School. I was homecoming king, but in 1992 instead of 1989. I changed that for the rhyme.
Using a combination of real and imagined things seem to give songs a realism even when they aren't totally accurate or based on personal experience.

Lyrics
Got my first kiss when I was twelve years old.
Me and Carrie Cooper,
Out on Old Stone Road.
Gettin' our feet wet in Johnson Creek,
She leaned over and kissed my cheek.
Didn't wash my face for a week -
And that's 'cause Mama made me.
Vs2
Me and Carrie went to White Oak High.
She was homecomin' queen and I was the king
Back in 1989.
Up in the bleachers, out in the rain
She never missed a-one of my football games.
I never once heard her complain-
She's the only thing that saved me.
CHORUS:
'Cause without Carrie carryin' me
I'd have never been all I turned out to be.
She kept me dreamin'
Kept me in line.
She kept me from sinkin'
A thousand times.
The reason behind all my rhymes
Was Carrie carryin' me.
Vs3
Three years later I asked her for her hand.
I watched her smile as she walked that aisle
And made me a happy man.
Out on the road in a few short weeks
Tryin' to get the world to notice me.
But Carrie, she always believed,
And swore someday I'd make it.
Vs4
We celebrated our tenth year today.
She's still a queen, and I feel like a king
Everytime she says my name.
This mornin' we drove down to Johnson Creek,
She leaned over and kissed my cheek.
Ain't gonna wash my face for a week -
I always knew we'd make it.
CHORUS:
But without Carrie carryin' me
I'd have never been all I turned out to be.
She kept me dreamin'
Kept me in line.
She kept me from sinkin'
A thousand times.
The reason behind all my rhymes
Is Carrie carryin' me.
