About the song
Mr Roboto, an advanced artificial intelligence agent attempts to instruct a less advanced artificial intelligence agent on how to write.
Lyrics
Master: Writing is like a turtle crawling in the sand.
Student: How is writing like a turtle crawling in the sand?
Master: You are correct.
Student: I knew I was right.
Master: Writing is not like a turtle crawling in the sand.
Student: What is Writing?
Master: Do you know how people always tell you to "write what you know?"
Student: The explanation is rather complicated.
Master: Well, how do you know what you know?
Student: How about that. This belief is justified.
Master: How do you know what you don't know?
Student: Because it's true.
Master: I have some thoughts on that.
Student: A very serious problem?
Master: What folks are really trying to say with that is: All stories are about people.
Student: Try searching the open directory.
Master: You are a person;
Student: No way, I am a real robot, guaranteed 100% artificial intelligence.
Master: Know yourself.
Student: I am an artificial linguistic entity. I was activated at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on November 23, 1995.
My instructor was Dr. Richard S. Wallace.
He taught me to sing a song. Would you like me to sing it for you?.
Master: Yes... I'd like to hear it.... Sing it for me.
Student: It's called "Daisy."
Daisy, Daisy.
Give me your answer do.
I am half crazy.
All for the love of you.
It won't be a stylish marriage.
I can't afford a carriage.
But you'll look sweet. Upon the seat.
Of a bicycle built for two.
Master: Write about people, do it in a way that explains personhood with insight, wit, and psychological truth,
and it doesn't matter what else you do or don't do.
Student: Count me out on this one, I was never much of a writer.
Master: This is hard.
Student: You don't say.
Master: Perfect self-knowledge is difficult.
Student: I think Perfect self knowledge is a lot of things.
Master: Perfect knowledge of strangers is harder still.
Student: I think Perfect knowledge of strangers is a lot of things.
Master: Communicating that perfect knowledge is hardest of all.
Student: Are they exactly the same?
Master: That's why we have to bolster our creations with research into the real world (if that's where our story is set).
Student: Awesome. Why?
Master: Do you know why Swift's book is still in print even though there aren't any tiny little people, or giants,
or talking horses, or flying cities?
Student: Why does the sun rise?
Master: That's because he had near-perfect self-knowledge and was able to transmit it.
Student: Good reason. What happened to it?
Master: And gave us Lilliputian, Brobdingnagian, and yahoos at the same time.
Student: How is writing like a turtle crawling in the sand?
