Back in '96 I wrote the first Whalesong Ensemble and they danced around me. Here our seaborn cousins are beginning to know me better and sung their little(not!) hearts out for me. Such Magical Creatures, with such wonderful Souls

As the track begins take two deep breaths and then plunge right in with them. To begin with you’ll hear only you. Deep breaths signify self-awareness and also that initial moment of excitement before ‘splash’ and your plunge over the side.
Now as your awareness of self is replaced by the feeling of being part of a whole Ocean, let yourself reach out to let the Whales take you on a journey of discovery & realisation. They will guide you to calm waters far below and as the tranquil deep slowly replaces a more frantic surface, you can let yourself forget there was ever a surface and enjoy the depth that Life holds before us.

In this Whalesong Ensemble I felt the need to once more be amongst intelligent life and on the whole, this doesn’t include man. Let’s face it, if an alien life form had been studying us for 10 years and then decided to make contact. I think they would be amazed to be told by us, that we were and are the highest form of life on planet Earth…Mmm!

When I first joined them in the original Whalesong Ensemble I was at that time new to the Whales and they kept their distance while they sang for me. I say ‘for’ because straight away they understood my dilemma and with no verbal communication on my part whatsoever.

This time when I returned, they remembered me from before and took me under their wing. Judging by the way that they are able to fly through the depths below us, then wing would be a good description. We all became one and as such were able to perform some beautiful movements, which reminded me greatly of a team of synchronised swimmers at their pinnacle.

In this new track I have tried to create the feelings and movements of us all (you as well!) as we achieved oneness with each other. From there we merged with the Oceans, became like water itself and as the Whales sang their blissful song.

Whenever i have seen or heard these gorgeous beings, I have felt as if I was amongst the most Peaceful, divine creatures on Earth…which of course I was!

My hope by creating this track is that for as long as it lasts, you are able to relax and forget. Let the stress of today, just float away for at least one whole play and I guarantee you’ll leave the water feeling much better.

A few facts I discovered in my research:
The Blue Whale is the biggest known animal on our planet, it would take 2700 people to weigh in at the same 185/200 tons as a full grown male. Their tongue weighs ¾ ton, the same as a small car. They are also the fastest animals in water, reaching speeds of up to 50mph.
Whales spend between a quarter and a third of their time eating and the rest of their time playing or singing & dancing in the oceans
A Humpback whales call can be heard on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, a distance equalling about 10.000 miles
The larger whales have no problem diving a mile underwater, where the pressure is 500 atmospheres. They collapse their lungs to avoid the bends and can easily stay submerged for 40 minutes before having to glide back to the surface for air.
Whales not only have the ability to see what is in the ocean with sound (Sonar), but it could also see what a fellow whale had in its stomach using the same method.
If a Mother Whales baby dies during the swim back to their feeding grounds, she will continue to carry it until the body decomposes
We have been harvesting whales for over 50 years and yet no-one seems to have studied their biology to see why no whales have ever been found with any form of Cancer, or any other form of pathological disease. This I find unbelievable because they too are mammals and are so like us in so many ways

If whales didn’t exist, the plankton populations would increase so dramatically that they alone would be responsible for a rise in temperature of our oceans and this would increase the effects of Global Warming. The reason being that plankton alone currently creates the majority of the worlds Oxygen and if their numbers increased, then so would the Oxygen content in our atmosphere. There is a very fine balance of percentages of gases that allow our atmosphere to be a liveable one for us and many other creatures. At this time 21% of the Earth’s atmosphere is made up of Oxygen and if this was to increase by just one percent, then there would be a 70% increase in the worlds brush and forest fires.

Life is about Balance & Harmony and the Whales of Planet Earth seem to know that very well.
