When I was a kid I was taken snipe hunting and actually saw one. It was breathtaking. No one believed me. It wasn't until years later that I figured out that this bird was not the mystic snipe, but a Blue Heron. Although not the legendary bird of myth, the Blue Heron is still a magnificent creature. Don't you agree?

I see white tail deer
several times every week
they come into my garden
help themselves and have a feast
there's an old mother opossum
living out back in a tree
hangin' from her tail with seven babies

But my favorite animal by far
is the Blue Heron

I will get off of my bicycle

Well I don't have a home
where the buffalo roam
and the dinosaurs all became
extinct so long ago
I have hunted snipe
by a firefly's light
but as far as something I might see
in my everyday life

But my favorite animal by far
