About the song
In the days following Katrina, we believed our home near New Orleans in Kenner, Louisiana was destroyed, and we even rented a broken down house in Prairieville, Louisiana for the months ahead. The feelings of loss, longing and hope during that time produced the song "Back in New Orleans." As it turned out, our home was spared the worst, and we're back.
Lyrics
Verse 1:
Baton Rouge has the Tigers
Houston has a dome
Neither one has what we need
We need to go home
Ever since Katrina
We've bounced from town to town
We took eight feet of water
But didn't drown
Verse 2:
Lafayette likes to party
Dallas has the dough
Now the Saints go marching in
San Antonio
I'd rather be in the Quarter
Sipping Hurricanes
Jamming to blues and jazz
My heart remains
Chorus:
Back in New Orleans
We're gonna rock
Back in New Orleans
We ain't gonna stop
Back in New Orleans
We're gonna roll
Back in New Orleans
The heart of soul
Bridge:
New Orleans
[Instrumental]
Sundays in the Quarter
Cafe au lait
We'll be home in time for Mardi Gras
Home to stay
[Repeat Chorus]
Verse 3:
Home is where the heart is
Home is in that town
Katrina tried to wash us away
She can't keep us down
See you in the Quarter
Music everywhere
Rex Parade will ride again
We'll be there
[Repeat Chorus]
Coda:
New Orleans
Back in New Orleans
New Orleans
Back in New Orleans
New Orleans
We're gonna rock
Back in New Orleans
We're gonna roll
New Orleans
[Repeat and fade]
