Lyrics
I’ve been doing some thinking, and I’m believing it’s time for a revolution. I keep blinking, hoping my former site to be a hallucination, but as my sights restored I find that realities unchanged and humanity’s drowning. And to be counter-cultural I have to keep drowning out their sound—like sirens surrounding me so loudly, or the thunder from a bass drum pounding, and it sounds to me like the sound of a heart beating at the center of domination. The high pitch trebles of nails screaming across metal. The sounds of oppression as they settle. They riddle me as everyone hears them hermeneutically and I can’t stand to see them keep us captive for one more lifetime! This poem is a lifeline; pieced together by right minds, offered so we can see life shin. I want to see sights find, rights climb, even at the cost of my life dying. As I write rhymes I find that IT’S THAT TIME!! And if you can’t see it my life shines, and for once – I’m not alright. If you give me a second I’ll share my life. I rarely lay my soul bare, so some may scratch their head and stare, but I’ll speak my words in hope you’ll care. Because this is my chance to dare death down in dying for damage done in darkness.
In my spiritual life I have the calling to be good, do good, inspire good things, and if that goodness doesn’t transpire then I figure what’s the good of living life for any means? But recently I saw the correlation between the spiritual and the literal world. You see, my Lord is more than paper pages and parables. When he walked this land he was more than good, he spoke against oppression; lifted up women; he stood for the people who weren’t winning. He understood oppression, and loved the people at the bottom. Not because they were holy, but because they saw clearly through the system. The Jews wanted a militant King, but Jesus knew that violence doesn’t change a thing. If you rid evil with evil, is there anything to build from as the foundation of the kingdom? Violence is the pages of propaganda written in lies on how violence can be redemptive. But violence redeems violence to the new system governing all things. And this propaganda may make thing think that everything is fine and sweet, but domination can be perceived in everything from here to the kitchen sink. I know that that people do countless numbers of negative things, but it’s in Active Non-Violence that we can cause truth to sting, and with that hear God’s angels sing. We will see people changed from fall to spring. Lives made complete as circles are to rings. Many people have lived this out but now their thoughts seemed to be ignored. I could spill shores of quotes from Gandhi or our own Martin Luther King. I don’t have a dream because the revolution is happening now. The oppressed need to stop giving the rich all the power. It’s time to get up and shower off nationalisms dirt that has made us cowards. We need to stop hiding in materialisms mire. But we can’t fight the system, with the system, because then it’s the system itself who ends up winning. Listen to the stories of history. First seen in our own war against the U.S.S.R. We hated the communist for their governmental control, propaganda and spies. But the longer the Cold War lasted the more we became what we despise. Or look how we dropped bombs on Japan who hated our culture before, but now it’s by the same capitalistic principles that we both stand. Or how about that black fist in the air? It hates racism and implores more people to care. But the more it hated, the more it degraded, and can now be argued to be the larger proponent of racism. It stands against discrimination, but rather than assimilation it facilitated hate crimes more horrid than the end times. The things that we hate can be the things that we become and so In Jesus’ interpretation of the new kingdom he says to love your enemies because they themselves are just as blind to the system.
The sun rises on the Just and the Unjust. Our currency says that it’s in God we trust.. but you know, what if God wasn’t on OUR side for once? See, we have to kill this mentality that it’s THEM versus US. I don’t care if we’re talking the bourgeois, racist, or the homeless walking the streets. I’ve been asked “what about those people? Or how about these?” But how about these words murmured for God to hear – “Forgive them Father for they know not what they do.” This earth has been saturated by those tears for the past two thousand and five years! It’s time for a revolution and I’m praying your hearing this hear.
Dear son or daughter: word is the revolution won’t be televised this time. I believe the headlines read THE REVOLUTION HAS NOT BEEN TRIED THIS TIME. We’re working with white collar workers wishing their were blue collar workers to do the damn work. We’ve got poets spitting verses to poets who speak the same stoic jokes back. I’m preaching to me; we’ve got to begin to live what we speak. For instance, let me teach what it means to turn the other cheek. It’s not a passive excuse for the week. To show power slaves would be backhanded and left to cower on their knees, but with this thought, his actions tell his master “Hey, check it, you missed a spot.” And with the cheek turned towards him a backhand simply won’t due. If his master throws again he’ll be forced to hit him like a man. Or lets examine when, Jesus stood before the crucifixion. He looked death dead in the eyes, put the fear behind, as he decided to die for what’s right. He was not the first, nor the last to put his life behind the new order. The door was opened and the domination system seen for what it was. The best man to walk this land was emptied of his red blood. He taught us that death is not failure and that life is not success. To quote a personal inspiration “Life is more than happiness.” It’s time to redefine what we believe and stop hanging on to our neglect. We keep speaking in regressive dialect; with words – emptiness and actions focused on sex. A life worth living requires sacrifice of what we believe is our piece of the pie. Do you not understand that while we waste time there are people being tortured to supply our need for diamonds!? Sierra Leone is just one example from the thousands. How selfish have we become that our greedy eyes and green wallets will strip away someone’s freedom? Lets take it back to the sweat-shops where 10 year old kids are making wrist-watch as their time tic-tocks away to the next day of the same, while American’s lip-lock because the gift-thought was great! So is God pissed-off that we ripped-off his child and in ignorance we-thought everything is ok? Lets say you take a moment to think about this after I get off stage. Breaking news says that ignorance cannot save. IT HOLDS NO WEIGHT. This idea that ignorance is bliss in one word --- IS BULL-SHIT! So handle this. Be a part of the future that makes sense! Take a risk because without it life is death! I’m tired of seeing people die, leaving me and you with a question of WHATS NEXT? What’s next? What’s next? .. what’s next?
