She stood before me
Poisoned haired
Wine dark dress
Egyptian eyed
And slowly ripped the air
before me

Tearing it slow
Inevitably

Her teeth ice-white
Between lips red

She let the images once hung
Upon the smoky air

Fall to the carpet

And we stood alone.

She let the word love
Cascade in terrifying heat
Fall between us as a golden thread that shone through the dark.

All around us couples whirled
Hand in hand
Players in a masquerade.

Yet we stood facing each other
Apart
whilst all of heaven and hell rushed between us.
