About the song
I think this was a joke that kind of went awry. It was written and recorded on the same day, May 29, 2004. I wanted to record it because the lyrics really made me laugh. Then something happened with timing and i had to leave the original metronomey drums in, which i think makes the song even funnier. It's a love song, albeit a mean one. I read once about this character who intentionally forgot things so he could experience the joy of discovery again and again. This is kind of like that. It's about dating someone, breaking up with them because they're boring, forgetting about them, then hitting on them because they're cute.
Lyrics
It's something i paid for
It's something inherent to who you are
And who you were
I'm running away now
I'm running away because you're scared
It's rubbing off
Minding my business
I'm going home
I'm asking your questions
I'm asking your questions on the phone
You're cutting out
I'm blowing the static
I'm blowing the static in your ear
You're boring me
Minding my business
You took me home
I'm losing your address
I'm losing your address with intent
I think i know
So tell me your name dear
Tell me your name you're kind of cute
What's that you say?
Minding my business
I'm going home
It feels like i know you
It feels like we've met someplace before
But i'm not sure
It's something inherent to who you are
And who you were
I'm running away now
I'm running away because you're scared
It's rubbing off
Minding my business
I'm going home
I'm asking your questions
I'm asking your questions on the phone
You're cutting out
I'm blowing the static
I'm blowing the static in your ear
You're boring me
Minding my business
You took me home
I'm losing your address
I'm losing your address with intent
I think i know
So tell me your name dear
Tell me your name you're kind of cute
What's that you say?
Minding my business
I'm going home
It feels like i know you
It feels like we've met someplace before
But i'm not sure
