About the song
About J Gale Kilgore

J GALE KILGORE, WAS BORN AND RAISED IN BIG SPRING, TEXAS, IN THE BROADWAY COURTS. LATER THE STORE WAS TURNED INTO A LOCAL DANCE HALL CALLED THE BROADWAY TAVERN.

THEY HAD A LOT OF TAVERNS IN BIG SPRING.
THE ACE OF CLUBS IN BIG SPRING IS WHERE LEFTY FRIZZEL WAS GETTING STARTED BACK WHEN I WAS A BOY. MY BROTHER GRADY WAS THE BOUNCER WHILE LEFTY WAS PLAYING AT THE ACE OF CLUBS. THE OLD BUILDING IS STILL STANDING.

LATER IN HIGH SCHOOL, J GALE’S HERO WAS FATS DOMINO AND THEN RAY PRICE.
I WAS REALLY INMPRESSED WITH ROCK AND ROLL AND COUNTRY WESTERN MUSIC.
I SUNG FATS’S SONGS ON THE BUS WHEN WE WERE TRAVELING TO PLAY FOOTBALL GAMES DURING HIGH SCHOOL.

THE FIRST TIME I SUNG IN PUBLIC WAS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL FOLLIES. A FRIEND, TONY STAR, PLAYED THE GUITAR AND I SUNG "BROWN EYED HANSOME MAN". I SUNG JUST MAINLY FOR MYSELF WITHOUT ANY PUBLIC SINGING UNTIL LATER.

I RECEIVED MY EDUCATION IN THE COLLEGE OF OPTOMETRY IN UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON IN TEXAS, THEN UNCLE SAM SENT ME ON MY "HIGH SCHOOL TRIP" TO VIET NAM.

WHILE WAS THERE I LEARNED TO PLAY THE GUITAR AND SING COUNTRY MUSIC.

WHEN I GOT BACK TO MY HOMETOWN OF BIG SPRING IN 1969, I STARTED DOING VOLUNTEER SINGING AT THE SERVICE CLUBS AND HOSPITALS.

THEN I STARTED PLAYING IN A JOINT CALLED, "IT’LL DO NUMBER TWO". IT WAS A REAL CLASSY PLACE FOR ME SINGING FOR TIPS AND BEING A COUNTRY MUSIC STAR. SORT OF A LOCAL YOCAL, PLAYING ON WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHTS AND FOR THE FIGHTS ON SATURDAY.

THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS, WHEN DRUNKS WERE DRUNKS AND FOOLS WERE FOOLS.

I CUT RECORDS AND TAPES AND CD’S AND HAD A TV SHOW IN THE 70’S. I NEVER DID HIT THE BIG TIME BUT I SURE HAD LOTS OF FUN.

NOW I DO SONG DEMOES FOR LYRIC WRITERS ALL OVER THE WORLD. I WRITE AND RECORD MY SONGS AND RECEIVE LOTS OF PLAY IN EUROPE AND AUSTRALIA. THEY ARE GREAT COUNTRY MUSIC FANS.

REACH OUT AND LISTEN
J Gale Kilgore
Key of G

Verse ONE
THE WORLD IS CHANGING ALL AROUND US
FROM BIRTH TILL NOW WE’VE SEEN MANY THINGS
WE NEED TO FIND THE WAYS TO MAKE THINGS BETTER
SOMETIMES IT FEELS THE WORLD HAS GONE INSANE

CHORUS
BUT THERE’S STILL HOPE THROUGH UNDERSTANDING
TRYING TO HELP EACH OTHER ALONG THE WAY
COMMUNICATION IS ONE KEY TO MAKE THINGS BETTER
REACH OUT AND LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY

Coda

Verse TWO
THE WORLD IS FULL OF HATE AND PAIN AND ANGER
WE MUST WORK TO TURN THAT AROUND
WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO EACH OTHER
ONE VOICE CAN’'T BE THE ONLY SOUND

CHORUS
BUT THERE’S STILL HOPE THROUGH UNDERSTANDING
TRYING TO HELP EACH OTHER ALONG THE WAY
COMMUNICATION IS ONE KEY TO MAKE THINGS BETTER
REACH OUT AND LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY

BUT THERE’S STILL HOPE THROUGH UNDERSTANDING
TRYING TO HELP EACH OTHER ALONG THE WAY
COMMUNICATION IS ONE KEY TO MAKE THINGS BETTER
REACH OUT AND LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY
LISTEN TO ME
REACH OUT AND LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY
