About the song
I may (or may not) have been subconciously inspired to record this by the Pogues, as I discovered their music during the last year and spent a lot of time listening to them. It doesn't actually sound much like the Pogues, but it is a rock version of an Irish folk song. Actually, I just like Irish folk songs.
I've tweaked the lyrics a bit, mainly changing the pronouns so I'll be singing about a girl instead of a guy. The final verse is entirely my creation.

Lyrics
I know my love by her way of walking
I know my love by her way of talking
I know my love can make me so blue -
but if my love leaves me what will I do?
My love she loves to dance, all right
and so she goes out nigh every night
she'll sit upon some strange man's knee
and tell him things that she used to tell me.
CHORUS:
And still I cry, I love her the best
and a troubled mind sure can know no rest
and still I cry, bonnie girls are few
and if my love leaves me what will I do.
I know my love is an errant rover
I know she'll wander the wide world over
in America she'll no longer tarry
a Japanese man she'll be sure to marry.
CHORUS
If my love could hear me play and sing
I hope my song joy to her would bring
she'd hear the love filling every note
but she's slipped away e're I open my throat.
CHORUS
I know my love by her way of talking
I know my love can make me so blue -
but if my love leaves me what will I do?
My love she loves to dance, all right
and so she goes out nigh every night
she'll sit upon some strange man's knee
and tell him things that she used to tell me.
CHORUS:

CHORUS

she'd hear the love filling every note
but she's slipped away e're I open my throat.
