In 2001 I joined a band named Soulvasq. They were friends of mine that I've known for quite a while, and they were all really good with their respective instruments. They had plenty of songs written that we rearranged and rewrote when I joined. I had the drummer and bassist come into the studio I was a partner in, and record rough demos of a bunch of their songs. Two years later, after I left the band, I really wanted good, finished versions of the Soulvasq songs, and decided to record a couple of tracks myself. I intend to have Mark and Dave record on them as well, if they ever get around to it.

Medicine Man has it's roots in a band prior to Soulvasq. Drop Swarm was a band consisting of Dave Solar, Mark Vasquez, Phil Goodrich and Jeff Piekarczyk. When Drop Swarm broke up, Dave and Mark continued working together in several projects before getting back together with Phil and doing Soulvasq. Medicine Man was written in the Drop Swarm days, and was originally called Machine Gun 101. A song that starts out really slow and ends up as primal screaming usually translates better live, but this was going to be the next song we worked on in the studio, and I was really excited to see what we could do with it. The only thing different from the way we played it is the addition of the analog synth parts.

Eventually, I'll get Mark and Dave to record the bass and vocals :)
