About the song
In 2001 I joined a band named Soulvasq. They were friends of mine that I've known for quite a while, and they were all really good with their respective instruments. They had plenty of songs written that we rearranged and rewrote when I joined. I had the drummer and bassist come into the studio I was a partner in, and record rough demos of a bunch of their songs. Two years later, after I left the band, I really wanted good, finished versions of the Soulvasq songs, and decided to build on those original bass and drum demos.
Territory was written by their keyboard player, and was a really simple, one dimensional song. The bassist and drummer put a really solid rock beat under that one dimensional keyboard part, and the vocals were really interesting. It quotes George Michael's "Father Figure" at the end, and in the vocals it quoted the Pet Shop Boys' "West End Girls".
Eventually, I'll get Dave to record the vocals :)
