About the song
I wrote and recorded this song in 1984 with my close friend Kevin Fairfield (aka The Boogieman). We recorded it with a long forgotten drummer on my old Akai four track reel to reel. Kevin played bass and lead guitar. I did the acoustic guitar and vocal. I initially named it Left Behind but later on renamed it Years Ago because I thought it fit better. When I do this song live with my band, it segues into Willie's On the Road Again.
Lyrics
Years Ago
I'm sitting here waiting for the coffee to boil
It's taking way too much time
I'm wondering where the dreams went that I made years ago
Are they locked behind some door in my mind
Will I ever lose the urge to drink myself to sleep
Will I ever try to take what is mine
Will I ever find the answers to the questions that I ask
Is there any way to catch what's left behind
There's a bottle on the table and some pills on the shelf
And my boss is wondering why I'm sick today
The one's who used to love me
Gave up years ago
Wondering 'bout my self destructive ways
Chorus
I'm sitting here waiting for the coffee to boil
It's taking way too much time
I'm wondering where the dreams went that I made years ago
Are they locked behind some door in my mind
Will I ever lose the urge to drink myself to sleep
Will I ever try to take what is mine
Will I ever find the answers to the questions that I ask
Is there any way to catch what's left behind
There's a bottle on the table and some pills on the shelf
And my boss is wondering why I'm sick today
The one's who used to love me
Gave up years ago
Wondering 'bout my self destructive ways
Chorus
