About the song
This was inspired by a coworker who finally said, “I’m out of here!” and went!
Lyrics
Rat Race
By Barbara June and Patrick Michael @2003
It was the middle of June, On a hot afternoon
I just couldn’t take any more.
I said to my boss, “This cause is lost”
And I headed straight for the door.
When I drove in the yard, I was thinking real hard
That something just had to change.
I pulled out my pen, I was thinking again,
I got a few details to arrange.
CHORUS
Stepping out of the rat race. Taking life at my own pace.
Don’t care who winds up in first place. Baby my time is my own.
I said to my honey “Wish that we had some money
I’d run away to find Paradise”
He said, “Now baby don’t you realize maybe
Eden ‘s right here in front of your eyes.
He said, “now darling, don’t need to go to a far land
Right here is everything we need.
You may think it odd but we been working so hard and I think this is a rainy day.”
CHORUS
We started a business and you’ll have to forgive us
But we do it all our own way.
Now we work at our home and we turn off the phone
When we’ve had enough for the day.
CHORUS
