Written for the Porch Swing Sisters (a trio). I rearranged it as a quartet for this cover.

1. Gabriel came to Mary innocent and mild.
He told her she was chosen to bear that holy child.
This troubled Mary deeply. She did not understand.
But she said that she was ready to follow God's command.

2. The shepherds were out watching their sheep one silent night.
When the heavens tore wide open. It gave them quite a fright.
But the angels said, "Be happy!" for unto you is born
God's holy child. They left their sheep and ran off in-to town.

3. Paul and Silas waited behind the prison bars.
The jailers had them shackled because he was in charge.
But an angel opened everything; the jailer cried in fear.
So Paul told him, "Be ready!" when the angels come around here.

4. When everything is over, and God calls his own home,
an angel out of heaven will blow a mighty horn
to tell us Love defeated sin and death and hate.
