Dale Earnhardt had so many fans that he has to be called a legend. This is a tribute to him as a icon and a human being.

About the song
I have been a race fan for my entire life. I never rooted for Earnhardt because he drove a Chevy. But I respect his ability and the way he treated people in need.
Lyrics
The Man They Called The Man

He was born with something special
Racin’ through his blood
Just like his Southern daddy
He was a stock car drivin’ stud
As a boy he learned that hard work
Was the fast track to success
And as man he earned a livin’
Workin’ hard to be the best

chorus:
Oh, the man they called “The Man”
Was a man in every way
His talent made him famous
But his heart’s what made him great
NASCAR’s filled with legends
But everybody understands
The man that drove the number 3
Was the man they called “The Man”

Now any fan can tell you
Who this song is all about
And his outlaw reputation
He earned without a doubt
But the ones who knew him best knew
If they went to him in need
That the man behind the mustache
Was a gentle-man in deed

(repeat chorus)

Bridge:
There’s a corner in Daytona
Where a father met his fate
But his legacy lives on
With his son in the number 8

(repeat chorus)

Yeah, racin’ has made some legends
But everybody in the stands
Knows the man that drove the number 3
Was the man they called “The Man”
