About the song
This song explores the power of the unified God: the Father from creation through the Son, who promised to always be with us through the permanent gift of the Holy Spirit.

In John chapter 8, Jesus has a conversation with a crowd that includes the Pharisees, those who wanted to kill him and those who believed in him. Please read the entire chapter for the context.

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants[b] and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin."

The conversation goes on where Jesus says, "I know that you are Abraham's descendants, yet you have no room for my word and are ready to kill me. I am only telling you what I heard in my Father's prescence, and you do what you have heard from your father".

They said, "Abraham is our father".

Jesus tells them that, no, the devil is the one they listen to. If they were the sons of Abraham, then they would act as Abraham did.

The conversation goes on, and the people say, "you are not yet 50 years old, and you have seen Abraham?"

58 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” 59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
Verse 1

Before the splash of any dawn and long before the sea
When light was not yet bursting to be free
You created thought about how splendor would be born
And gathered up the mix of life to be

Before the universe of thought, before the ways of man
When life was just as clay upon the wheel
When waves came crashing down and formed the rocks of fragile life
When land was formed and brought forth grain and blossoms from the trees you said

I Am! I Am and always will be
And do proclaim that I forever
Will hold you close to me

I Am! I Am and promise to you
We'll always be together
Because I live in you

Before Abraham was...I Am!

Verse 2

Long before the notion of the sea of endless time
The cradle of Your mind gave birth to stars
You tacked them to the whiteboard called the universal frame
And those rocks and stones cried, "Holy is His Name!"

The Alpha and Omega, separate from created things
Created perfect order for my way
The rock of my foundation and the purpose for my life
You turned the darkness into dawn, revealed to me your light and said

Jesus, Jesus, Immanuel, my God with me
Jesus, Jesus, the Bread of life is all I need
He's all I need!
