About the song
The underlying theme to “Come Dance” comes from a verse in the book of Revelation where the Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” This then is a love call from heaven to the Bride to come and join the heavenly dance with the Bridegroom. The instrumental originally had some lyrics as well, but I eventually decided against it. Nevertheless, you can probably still hear where the words "Hear the loving call of heaven” fit at the end of each section, and the coda is built on the lyrics "Come dance! come dance! come dance with heaven come dance!"
The rest of this info may be musically challenging for some, but I thought there could be someone out there who just might be interested!
This classically oriented composition had it's origins in a simple little tune consisting of only 5 different notes that repeat over and over. The character of the rhythm is quite unusual - a 5/8 measure alternating with a 4/8 measure that lends itself to some quite complex development later in the song. In verse two the 5/8 meter alternates with the 4/8 meter - just as it did in the first verse - but this time it is played concurrently against a solid 4/4 meter. The ensuing syncopation is obvious and feels great! In verse 3 a similar thing happens but the underlying meter changes to 9/8. There is the odd subtle change in rhythm throughout to make the whole thing "fit" - but this gives you the overall picture . The climactic CODA is obviously in straight 6/8. The instruments are all synthesised, except for piano, bass, flute and piccolo!
This is probably the most enjoyable composition I have ever worked on. I would love to do more, but it is somewhat time-consuming, and not everybody enjoys the classical thing!
