I first heard this song from the singing of Jean Ritchie, and it later became the first song I learned to play on the Appalachian mountain dulcimer. My own style is very different from Jean's, as are some of my lyrics. The tune is essentially the traditional one that Jean sang, but the three-part Renaissance harmony on the choruses is something that Anne, Gina, and I came up with on our own.
