Story Behind the Song
I first heard this song in 1969 at Chicagos Auditorium Theater, location for the Chess Records Super Cosmic Joy-Scout Jamboree. The jam was held after the final day of recording for the Fathers And Sons album. Conceptually speaking, Fathers And Sons featured the Blues masters and the new blood breaking musical bread in the Chess Studio. The resurgence of Chicago-based blues in the mid- to late 1960s came with an entirely new breed of icons to bear the torch. Among them were the decidedly electric Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Joining Muddy Waters (guitar/vocals) and Otis Spann (piano) on the aptly titled Fathers And Sons are three Butterfield Blues Band alumni: Michael Bloomfield (guitar), Sam Lay (drums), and leader Paul Butterfield (harp). Further augmenting the personnel is Booker T. and the MG's Donald Duck Dunn (bass) and Buddy Miles (drums). The session helped solidify Waters stature as one of the pre-eminent forces in Chicago Blues to a decidedly fresh and underdeveloped audience.

It was with this spirit in mind that I brought Blow Wind Blow to the Nashville sessions. I had always wanted to record it and this was the perfect opportunity.
