This song was conceived by Jim and Friend of Mutt, Carl Schulz, during a muskie fishing trip in Hayward, Wisconsin. Much like Smell the World was originally started, Carl and Jim were without instruments, so while one guy made up lyrics, the other sang the band parts. As soon as they got back to Milwaukee they picked up the instruments and figured out the parts. Ron and Mike deserve most of the credit for putting the different parts together and coming up with the format while all four of Mutt tossed out the ideas that became the lyrics. (Some lyric credit should go to Michelle Wilson who was also on the fishing trip.) Jim was originally supposed to sing one of the verses, however the whole chew-gum/walk thing proved too great an obstacle. In the end, Mike and Ron decided to split the vocals with one guy singing while the other guy played the guitar part.
