"RCTFORME - Yeah, I've never heard of him either.

RCT. What does it stand for? What does it mean? Chances are you've never heard of the man that is RCTFORME, as I know I didn't before being handed an almost random album from my supervisors and asked to review it. Nearly tossing it to the garbage bin, I grew slightly curious of the strange wolf image and the man curiously placed oposite of it on the rainbow-ish circular album cover and the funky-retro text. I checked the back for a list of songs only to find a description of the artist. It started to tingle my interest-senses so I popped out the disk and stuck it into my player. After reading up on the list of songs found in the mini-booklett, I got a slight idea of what I was in for, and I didn't have high expectations. But boy, was I wrong.

When I e-mail Mr. West (RCTFORME) about publishing my review, he made it abundantly clear that any songs mentioned were to be referred to by their whole name, what with his catigory system for naming his songs, which seemed a bit off the wall, but it works really well considering what he has done.

The Album "RCT's Tradition Trance-Ition" contains only songs from his Cylindric Router collection and some of his previous uncatigorized songs, featuring 11 full-length tracks and an intro track which is something I've never seen an artist do, but he actually makes it work really well, and it sets up a perfect vibe for the CD, especially considering the first song of the CD.

Cylindric Router (Beat Tradition) is the first song and the second track of the CD, and is one of the most innovative techno hits that I've heard in a really long time. It's nearly nine full minutes long, but doesn't waste any precious seconds during the track. The drums are hypnotic and the vocals really fit quite well. The transitions between segments are done flawlessly, and add nicely to the tone.

"Singing In My Head" was definitally a weird one, and had an unusual selection of elements that tended to work really well together. It was difficult to designate the genre to this one, but it mostly fits under ambient, or even tribal if you wanted to go that far. The selection of sounds is quite good here.

Probably the gem in the crown is "Cylindric Router (Cone Force)", which at first I thought was a cut version of the Cone Force that is found on his website, but I later found out that the song on the website was a remix of this one. The remix didn't actually do much besides add a lot to the beginning of the track, but much of the goodness of the new track can be found on the CD, minus the bass-kicking snyths at the start. The CD version keeps a steady flow however and has an awesome selection of bass found on the website version, and is just as sweet, but shorter. I preferred the website version though.

NeedleCube2 is probably my least favorite of his tracks, but that's not to say it's bad. It felt like this song lacked a lot of the originality that his other tracks are strong for, and it made this track not feel as strong.

Wow, Cylindric Router (Fright Machine) is definitally my favorite of his tracks on this CD. It is also on his website and is, in my opinion, his strongest song of the Cylindric Router series. This song carries a bassline like I've never heard before, and had me picturing images of mass histeria while I listened. Strong, Wide, and a bit spooky, Fright Machine is definitally one to check out all the way through.

Another strong song comes to be Scene Flight (RCT's Armada Remix), which carries another interesting bassline and an awesome selection of synths throughout. A good selection of sounds, but nothing spectacular.

Cylindric Router (Flash Back) comes second to Needlecube as least favorite because it seems to have a similar quality of unoriginality that Needlecube also has. It feels really laid out and somewhat weak at times, but it does have a good sound.

Oh my god, Turtles Are Taking Over has to be the best song in existance. This song is so wild and over the top, which is saying a lot considering it only has a few lines. "Turtles are taking over the world. Jump into a giant rubber-ducky suit and swim to Sweden!" Sweden, indeed. Definitally an original idea and a brilliantly-produced song. It carries a decent tune with sounds that fit the theme so excellently that it just makes you laugh and bob your head at the same time as you listen. Definitally a song you need to hear.

The final Cylindric Router song is the aptly-named "Electric Squirrel World," which may make no sense at first (what does it have to do with squirrels? Are they in league with the turtles?), but the song itself is fairly enjoyable. It has a very bouncey tune to it as well.

Open 'Til Midnight is the shortest song on the album, and apparently hte shortest song in RCT's entire collection, but it's just as sweet. It kind of needs to be short to keep up the goodness that it has. It's the kinda song you expect to hear at the end of a really good (or really weird) detective movie.

The song titled "Sunset Sands Background Music (RCT's Remix) was, as I found out, a remix of a background music piece for the Nintendo 64 game "Beetle Adventure Racing," and personally being a huge fan of that game and of the music in that game, it surprised me greatly to find a remix of one of those tracks on RCT's CD. I loved the original version, and his version is just as great!

All in all, if you're a fan of electronica, or just plain video-game-music, you gotta pick up a copy of "RCT's Tradition Trance-Ition". It's only available online and can be found on RCT's Website @ RCTFORME.Com. I recommend going there and checking out his album and all his newer songs, which I found to be much better than his album songs, and since I loved his album, you know I loved his newer songs."

This is Orgy's 2nd review of one of my songs, so a big thanks to him for putting up with me :)

RCTFORME - Tatonic Shift (EarthQuake)
"very tribal sounding intro, good stuff. digging that bending delayed bass too, interesting. nice beat at :38ish when it comes in, feels like it could be a bit more there though, by 1:30ish I'm kinda looking for some new stuff, could use a little something before that to kill that repetitiveness, but it's not bad for sure, this is a great moving tune so far. diggin that flute part, very nice, moves along nicely, same with that distorted lead that comes in afterwards, very cool stuff. feels like this tune could definitely use some eq on the high end though, have you checked out the mastering tips and suggestions sticky? md has a great eq setting for mastering on there, would def liven up the high end on this one, for sure... feels like it should be getting repetitive by like 5:30ish, but it's not, good stuff right there. good ending, this is a sweet tune man, great work, good stuff for sure"

RCTFORME - Cylindric Router (Cone Force)After listening to it once through i must say this is a great piece, im a bit put off by the length, but it is justified a bit. The slow build up doesnt get boring either because every 4 bars something else is happeneing, good stuff, nitty gritty:

Not with the beginning and all that jolting, but it forms up nicely with the beat finding its way in and the nice dreamy pads that are essential in providing the atmosphere. Beatwise its nice and jungly. It builds up nicely and then that bass/didjerydoo thingy comes back in. So thats like a realy long intro 2:30 which i think may be a bit on the long side im not really with how long these sorta tracks should be but to me it does take its time! The good thing is that the panning of percussion and addition throughout keep my attention. 3:30 bass change is good starts to get a bit more exciting and characteristic, whilst the percussion continues to play around, i like what your doing with the percussion. In fact major props for the coposition in this track! Not much else to say, im not fully sure on what would be effective to change possibly a more hi-ended synth to round it off, see how that makes the track sound. I like the computerised effects in and aound 6:20, it then does begin to long out and i reckon it should have been rounded off around then. Its best to keep things as short as you can in tracks like these to keep people coming back, dont milk it!

Lovely percussion build-up and a smooth track which is a bit too long for my liking. Even so, well done.

My rating: 7/10

3 guitars: Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

Took a listen to "Turtles are taking over!!!". A title like that just jumps out the page and screams "LISTEN TO ME!!!!". I enjoy the thought of turtles taking over the world.

RCTFORME – Lectronic Study (Dance Forest)

Let me first say that I´m a person that use to spend a lot of time walking in the woods.....and I´m not talking of a clump of trees here..........
I´m talking about wilderness woods......we´ve a lot of them here in Sweden....you can be walking for days and not meet a single person....that´s relaxing. Nowadays my problem is that I live in a big city....very long way to wilderness..........well.......now, why am I talking about that here ? Because I´ve found a "quick-way" to get out there.........

RCTFORME has created a song that really works for me this way....
* I pick up "Dance Forest" at my player
* I lean back
* Close my eyes
* Hit the Start-button at the player.......and......these wonderful Wolf-howling and the synths creates an mystiqe mood .. wow.....suddenly I´m out there.........I´m sitting on a cliff with a beutiful wiew of an wooden valley in the sunset....just relaxing before taking a nap.....I can see the pack of amazing Wolfs down there....the whole place are very relaxing and beutiful..........

This is IMO one very important part with music.....that it´s able to bring pictures, sceneries and emotions up to the listener......and this song really do.

The init bass-line combined with the Wolfs are lovely, the synhts and drums are almost sneaking into the song. Some might find the song too repetative...but I think that it´s suits this type of music, because it´s a meditative piece of music that goes on for 8:35 and I love every tune.

Aaron use the instruments well....specially the base, these smooth guitars, the synths.....well...to make it short...all of them ....and especially not to be forgotten, the Wolfs ! ....wow......I almost started howling with them....but my neighbors would maybe have opinions of that......

The production seems to me very professional done and I can´t find anything to complain about.

I strongly recommend this song for downloading.

Thanks Aaron for taking me out there.....it was great Thumbs up

Take care
Leif

p.s. Aaron....nice that you urge people to swim over here to get saved from the turtles.... Mr. Green ...now...just for courisity......how did you come up with that idea?

RCTFORME – Cylindric Router (Beat Tradition)

The title? Don't ask.

The artist? Don't ask. He probably be along in a minute anyway and tell you himself. He's a bit like that you know. Not afraid to stand up on his own two feet and shout above the heads of the crowd.

It's also, however, the first chance I have had to review this new Ejay artist so lets get to it. On first listens, the track is pretty much pure electronica with the odd vocal sample thrown in for effect. It will be a track therefore that many of you will know before you even play it, RCTFORME tends to stick to the safe side of the electronica road - at least on this outing anyway. That is not to say that Cylindric Router has a pointy head and answers to the name *edit* (crap). It's actually a very well sourced and performed electronica peice that will please many who make that genre their home.

Out there in the wider field, I'd have to say this is nothing like strong enough. Some parts of the arrangement work well together but the more towards the end of the track you get, the more ploddy it seems to become. That, of course, will be a problem with a track that stretches out to a lesuirely 8:51. Technically, despite its ability to punch its weight, looked at carefully this is a very rough track without the instrument definition and tautness of mix shown in some of the best examples of the genre (see OrgaNik, Gnazz et al for more). That, unfortunately, is the competition and they play a very high game.

Having said all that, Cylindric Router (Beat Tradition) is a track that RCTFORME can be well proud of. Its certainly got a lot more going for it than many a newbie track and there will be many people who will appreciate this. The material certainly has promise but for me this track lost greatly though common mixing errors (fluffly kick sounds/sounds over-riding each other and volume levels). Still, I was ever the nitpicker eh? Let's have a listen to something else from this artist eh?

RCTFORME – Cylindric Router (Cone Force)

Interesting intro, I like the vibe. woah, is that your bass drum? did it get kicked in the nuts or something, it's singing soprano, know what I mean? boost the bass on that one... Wink nice sounds though, good stuff, I like that delayed hit that comes in here and there. the fx are nice too, good stuff right there. sweet bass, and nice sounds after the bass. yeah, this is def some tribal, but I'd leave the name, it's cool as is. nice panned delayed bells too. this track could use more lead kinda sounds, like the thing that comes in right after the bass first came in. just to keep the interest, and the flow going. I like those deep drum hits too, right there in the mix. another good track right here, gonna dl this one later on for sure, lemme know if you update it

RCTFORME – Cylindric Router (Cone Force)

Let’s get two things straight. First, I don’t know shit about Electronica/Techno or Electronica/Tribal. Second, I never go easy on anyone. Now that that’s out of the way, I like your track. It’s ambient trippy stuff with lots of percussion sounds. I like the fact that it morphs from one thing to another without ever really letting up or abandoning it’s ultra-repetitive nature or introducing any melody instruments aside from bass and a some synth arpeggios. I think the break at 5:38 was unnecessary, but it’s thankfully short. I like the dubbyness of some of the echo-y sounds. Two thumbs up. I think your decision to stay away from melody almost completely on this track paid off nicely.

3.25 Stars (out of 4)
