Formed in 2007 in their native county of Finland, Liv Animal play classic rock with a twist. They say that their sound is different to any other around at this current time, and I was impressed by their debut EP.cccc'Custom Made' is a very good opening song, as it sets the tone of what the album is all about. The riffs sit nicely in drumming patterns that are highly impressive, and the vocal delivery is spot on. If I hadn't been told I would never have guessed that this band wasn't American. However it doesn't seem like they are forcing any kind of accent when singing, it's just their natural sound.cccc'Navy Blue' slows down the tempo with it's impressive slice of southern rock, it's a modern day love song with feeling. It shows a mellower side to the band, and really fits their sound. The solo reminds me of Lynyrd Skynyrd, which can't be a bad thing, and the lyrics are extremely meaningful.ccccThe final two tracks 'Solution' and 'Smoking Standards and Shooting Routines' bring the tempo right back up. The question and answer riffs, and power chords show that the band doesn't do solos all the time and they do have simpler catchier material. They are both impressive tracks and it is extremely refreshing to have a band coming through the ranks that don't conform to any predicate sound.ccccThis is a very impressive EP and I recommend you all go and have a listen to the southern rock blues, produced from this highly talented Finnish band.

Everybody loves pleasant surprises when something turns out a hell of a lot better that you expect it to be. Well Liv Animal on the epitome of pleasant surprises! On paper the Finnish three piece do not come across as anything special in fact the description of 'rugged rokmusic did not instil confidence. But I was made to eat my words. Liv Animal are a boisterous yet melodic rock band with a sound that flits easily from American-influenced grunge to a much more British indie rock sound. The guitar riffs are explosive and the lead vocalist could hold his own against many of todays leading frontmen. An exciting band to watch out for.

4/5 Stars
