Even though you say it’s a `rough` mix, I wouldn’t touch it – it’s a great song.
It’s also a very well thought out collaboration – you guys rock!
I can’t really explain what I mean about the recording, other than it has a warmth and naturalness that’s missing from many hi-tech recordings these days.
The vocals are balanced perfectly too. Performance wise, it sounds like you guys were having fun, though I dare say some multi-tracking was going on … but it doesn’t give that feel.
Anyway, very enjoyable!
Chris.

And that song 'Johnny Rotten is still my hero' rocks !!! I sang it out loud for like days and people just smiled as I walked by, I couldn't get it outta my head.
'Real love and communication' is so real, I wish everyone could hear this song and maybe we could all get along!!!! you seem to be good at both !!!!
and 'Girl singer' is so sweet, I can relate and 'King Arthur's coming' got sent to some of my friends who are druids in south Florida!!!! I like that song a lot !!!!!
I will play them again today and tomorrow and the next day and the next !!!!!
Witchy huggss and happy halloween!!! love The Moon
Steve, is an awesome writer. He also embodies everything an independent
musician aspires to be. Free........................ A gypsy if you will.
He lives the life, day to day... I am jealous! But I chose my direction, and am
happy with the results.
The first time I listened to one of Steve's tracks, I heard that edge someone
gets from years of busking. To me........ that is where real music is created.
Think it easy do you????? Try going out on a street corner someday...by
yourself, and capture the attention of all passers by.
Something tells me.... The Bard's guitar case is full of $ at the end of the day.
But more important........And I believe this about him....He relishes, the
smiles and the look in a listeners eyes, when they walk by, and give him a
nod.
My take on Steve is this....He is about the gift of Music. And gladly shares it.
Many Blessings
Ricky
I like the start and horn in the background. This is not the acoustic version, I would ask that you bring your vocals out a little more in the mix and decrease the volume for backing vocals (even though they are very good), also the timing in the final verse “…we don’t care if we get banned…” phrase sung is a little off in the timing. This stuff is undeniably catchy, thank God it’s good or I’d have to hunt you down and do rather unpleasant things to you ; ). I like the lyrics, they have an aggression, a bite that fits the namesake and band mentioned. Your stuff is phenomenal, very humbling. I knew there was a reason I liked folk so much.
song: All of them!
Review: The Bard of Ely. A name that shall bring back great memories in 20-30 years time when I'm a musician/famous writer/a nobody. The Bard has to be the best Folk singer I've heard for a good while, with only a few exceptions (and I'm sure they're exceptions that influenced him). From songs such as 'Kingfisher' and 'John Barleycorn', with there simple structure and deep and meaningful lyrics, to the more grunge like 'Land of our Fathers', commenting on the destruction of the countrysides, to the just plain comical, yet also very clever 'Rubber Ducky', The Bard continues to make music in various and unpredictable genres, improving all the time whilst at the same time putting forward some very important issues. Here's to the success of the Great Steve Andrews; The Bard of Ely!
