The Lord has used the acoustic guitar in Ken’s life to lead him in his personal devotions, giving him simple melodies as he meditated on what the Bible was teaching him in his reading. While his music and style have matured in his thirty years of playing, God’s hand in his music, much like the leading of the Holy Spirit throughout the Christian’s life, has remained constant, confirming for him that his music is to be used in service to the Lord.
Kenneth did not lightly arrive at the decision to offer his music freely to any who would use it in the service of the Lord. Though his prayer was always to be used of God through music, he has found it impossible to reconcile service to God and commercialization of self, “for who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?” (1Corinthians 4:7)
Though Ken wanted to share this gift God has given him, he has struggled against falling prey to pride in his attempts to get a broader audience for the talent he’s received, as many in ministry seem to have done. Because of the pitfall of pride and to guard himself against becoming puffed up, Ken has concluded that he cannot embrace the commercial music industry and so places his work in the hands of God to be used by God’s people for God’s glory; “therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1Corinthians 10:31)
