The unbelievable genius...
Continues...

The ENORMOUS handbag *shrieks!!!*
- oh dear, I hope you haven't seen me in Tescos....(embarrassed!!!!) hahah - this amazing idea factory is like Monty Python if it were conceived in 2020!!!

The ideas are so prolific that they tumble out endlessly fluent, and leave jaws on the floor... I cannot even begin to say how bright and marvellous you guys really are, your music is some kind of other worldly, unlimited and untamed experiment that could be talked about in 100 years, as the roundabout from where new comedy and benchmarks were evolved, lifted and set to new levels effortlessly. You churn out wild, humorous and fearless musings of unquantifiable brilliance as though you were just thinking aloud, this really sets you apart from the crowd, your ideas seem to run like sand from an egg timer, WOW!!

You should be 24/7 working on some kind of Frank Zappa sized MEGA catalogue, hey you probably are! Well I hope so, you deserve the very best of props and encouragement, there's truly nothing else like you in musical creation today, you are the one off writing mould, so unique that I doubt it will ever be broken.

ROCK ON you wonderful characters of the unusual, the illuminated, the crazy and the unfashionably perfect!

You are the best example of a furrow ploughed with no intention of ever conforming to any standard set before.

Total respect and LOUD APPLAUSE HERE for Nige and Trev you're wonderful artists!!!

All the best,
from Maria xx

Extremely Weird

Extremely well produced track also. Lots of very cool things to listen...Every sound is well placed, the quality of the mixing is superb.

The vocals are amazing, the melody is so good that we start to whistle along with it without noticing...

Very original tune! The performance of the musicians is excellent. The guitar work is totally flawless, great choice of tones, you can notice how careful the production was.

Of course, I canīt avoid comparing it to 'Octopusīs garden'...but with many more little sea creatures. Congrats guys!!!

Psychedelia lives on !!!!

Nige and Trev are perhaps one of the closest modern acts that produce original music that still breathes the spirit of true acid craziness that used to be heard in the 60's (yes ....I was there !!!). Or perhaps they're just plain BONKERS !!
However you look at it this particular track has a really nice production and is almost.....dare I say it......catchy enough to be a commercial hit. UGHH !!!
This is like a crossover between the Bonzo Dogs and the original Soft Boys.
You guys are living on your own planet but it shines like a light and brings a smile to all who hear it.
This is great stuff and should definitely be added immediately to the school's curriculum.
See now i'm talking crazy too......AAAAAGHH !!!!!!

How much more inventive can you get than Nige and Trev!?!

You guys are maybe the most creative band here on Mix. I've been remiss in not listening to more of your work. It's always so entertaining and appealing across so many genres!!
I just love the lifting feel of this one. Great instrumentation and embellishments. The female passages are awesome. The performance and recording are impeccable.
Love it!!! 4 Ys.

This is a display of production
This is a very strange and intruiging sound again very reminiscent of a chilling psychological thriller movie like the shining or a clockwork orange. You guys must be quite a treat live lol. I see the depth in the production and the variation in moods throughout your songs. I liked it and think everyone should have to be exposed to this if I did.

You guys are unbelievable all right. Keep this music to yourselves for fear that children may be tainted lol. This is actually quite impressive and stellar production work. The talent is there and the skill. I am still trying to wrap my head around the amount of care that is poured into these recordings. I am going to try some more of your stuff because I am stunned and awed and don't really fully understand the effect this has had on me.

Cool n' great Bluuues and lovely chaos design thereafter. Absolutely adorable the drum work - and power walls of improvisation. Sound like an aggressive-fun jam session, with hypnotic & haunting ups & downs, created by blessed musicians. This should be experienced live!:)

Brilliant....

Imagination runs riot in this piece of WONDER - with such an enlightened blast of horsey fresh air comedy hugeness that we can only clap like sea lions, and wish we had the power of creativity that is owned by Nige and Trev...

A New Year Remedy
I didn't know what to expect when i read the title of this but coming from you guys i knew it would be totally original and off the wall. This one is stylistically very different from your other stuff, it has a clean sort of electro rock sound which seem at odds with the lyrics but it's a great contrast and the juxstaposition really works. I love the guitar and percussion all through this track, some real groovy basslines also. Unique and brilliant.

Eleven Fires
EPIC insanity, to be sure...
Boyz', yer' DONE IT (yet) again. "Normal" listeners, beware - you will NOT be able to handle this. In point of fact, it warn't MEANT to be "handled". Much like ingots of radioactive sound, yer' mind will rapidly become radiated & you'll wake up in th' middle of a "Nixon" movie (somewhere back in th' '70's) if you haven't been "initiated" before.

My earz iz PLEASED with this degree of madness(es), o' course. The time signatures HAVE no signatures, & you MUST get yourself acclimated to chaos (along with a nice lil' tad o' th' blooz) unless you intend to go to your final reckoning unprepared!

This gets our MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the genre (once you can figger out wot' th' genre really IZ).

I'll have a big slice

This is crazy as I'm sure you're aware....what I love about it is how you work this great ambience into it...or work the lyrics into the ambience, whichever it is. It takes abstract minds to fuse so styles that are so far apart and make them work. I actually find this quite dark, not sinister but dark in the sort of wat worzel gummidge was dark...it was fun but you knew there was a more mysterious side to it...that old crowmaster...shudder. As always it's musically exquisite, powerful piece...the lyrics drip into your head and you're thinking did i hear right there? I'm always trying to focus on your ambience while listening as i find it captivating. Definitely a piece in the finest zappaesque tradition, shifting from classical to humour to rock in the space of a few bars. I've just realised the vocals are coming through the left channel also and this is what's causing the weird effect...it's as if he's shouting this right in my ear for me only as opposed to for everyone. It's a great effect. It takes some vision to write stuff like this.

Nige and Trev - Stamp Out M-M-M Madness In The Air Album review
Sadly, and all too often Ladies and Gentlemen, we come across unsigned artists that equal or surpass their contemporaries in the 'signed' world. Nige and Trev should have been special guests on any one of Frank Zappa's or Captain Beefheart's albums. Or, Frank and Don should have been guests on any one of Nige and Trev's tracks. The reason being quite simply, that Nige and Trev often equal or surpass the work of these amazingly innovative artists, and I see it as my job in writing this review to explain why this is an indisputable fact.

Let's begin with the song 'Naomi and I we're trees', now, don't look for it as it is not on this album. This track is a brilliant, must have, multi-colored collage of sound, assembled, arranged, and recorded in the absence of Don Van Vliet, the Mothers, and the Bonzos, but with reverence, respect, and salutations to all three. Spinning, whirling, up the walls and behind the radiators guitar bits, and some other rhythm and vocal things just make ya wish your volume control would go all the way to eleven! This is also true for the album that slips in between the sheets of psychedelia, rock, spoken word/comedy, experimental, fusion jazz, free jazz, and contemporary classical. And, Ladies and Gentlemen, let us not forget that the album you must have is the subject of this review.

'The living world of sea creatures (makes me want to whistle)' is actually on this album and acts as your first step on the escalator to the wonderment rooms. It truly is a work of monumental importance and is so cleverly constructed and produced that you end up listening with more than one head nodding in approval and your whole being yearning for more. There is a downside to listening to this track in that you literally can't stop whistling the running theme tune for hours, and sometimes this continues for days afterwards. Sarah Reeves superb vocal makes for good marriage material and the wisdom in the lyrics is the stuff of true poetic and linguistic genius. Watch out for the astonishing guitar breaks and you won't be disappointed.
'Message for Jimmy' on the other hand, is the antidote to the whistling but not the yearning for more. The minds that composed and present this form of audiophilic euphoria are literally set on stun. Rumor has it that Janie Shorter's exquisite sax and Paul Gibbon's revivalist keyboard genius were epitomized in the ramblings of 'Chop Chop Charlie' in his literary masterpiece 'Is Whale in?' and even if you're two watts short of a sixty watt bulb, you'll understand why. 'Message for Jimmy' is simply another monumental effort and if you listen to this song while sucking on a melon flavored Jolly Rancher, you'll be pleasantly uplifted (I'm not sure if Jolly Ranchers are available in the UK, if not, write in and I'll send you a pack).

'Bligh's Woodstock Aunt/Off me f****in' ead/Bligh's jazz Daleks (easy listening chill-out medley)' is a firm favorite of me Aunty Lucy's especially at Christmas when she turns the volume up all the way to eleven on her HMV radiogram. It's a track that would have kept the Bonzo's 'Let's make up and be friendly' at number one for years had it been included and renamed Nige and Trev 'Let's make up and be friendly. The inserts in this excitingly arranged masterpiece are what Sgt Rutherford of Mervyn Swift fame called 'little gems among a myriad of gemstones'. Need I say more? Doug's cough is a superb example of further exploration into the twilight realm of Rooftop Studios hidden aural dimension, located just beside and occasionally in front of the patch bay.

'Better off working on the buses (Route #2)' opens with Eric Sykes (with a cold) impersonator Jeffrey Kite, and meanders spectacularly around your headphones if you're wearing them. It's actually a sad statement usually hurled at artists, actors, and writers, who struggle with creative thoughts and ambition in a deprived social setting. Moving on happily however, The invertative state of yoh includes one of the most visually impressive Stratocaster wranglings I have ever seen, which once separated, could easily pass for a much deserved tribute to Mick Clack's 'The six year Mark' (see Mervyn Swift). Now, had I been responsible for working on the composing or recording of the magnificent 'DNA', I'd be a very happy and contented guy indeed. Forward thinking artists produce this kind of music for the benefit of the planet and it truly is a much better place for having this track in it. Keyboard work is skilled and tasteful in it's refusal to be derivative of anything that has gone before, and you have to admire the engineer here for keeping everything in check.

'Better off working on the buses (Route #1)' unlike it's predecessor (Route #2) is the track that nearly filled Holy Cross church to capacity when two of the altar boys sneaked a cassette version into the cassette deck that normally plays the church bells. With 'Perry on a G-string', we have a very short clip of something much bigger. The thing is with this sorta thing, is that you want it to be longer, and when it's a little over a minute long, you're left longing.

'Perry cross the Mersey Cherwell' continues where 'Perry on a G-string' left off, but with more discipline and support from synchronized guitar/vocal expert Dr Ruth Canal - taxi driver therapist and counsellor for the hard driven.

'Hard elf march' is another 'just over a minute' sample of audio delight and you're looking at the narrow divide between accomplishment and establishment in midi keyboards and drums done properly. A welcome bridge between the spectacular that is, in itself, spectacular! 'Ayresy-boy's jackhammer' is one of the best of the thirteen best tracks that make up this album. With delightful sweeping pads in all the right places matched by equally majestic guitar bits and lyrics, Ayresy boy's jackhammer is a showpiece of excelled musicianship and studio wizardry likely to have been composed or recorded at Abbey Road sometime in November. This track is a truly fantastic collage of audio delight spread across a canvas painted exclusively by the consummate masters of aural pleasures!

Sadly, and I do mean sadly, 'To catch a baby donkey' is the last track on this album and, almost certainly, the thirteenth. Rising, sweeping, guitars intermingled with a plethora of other things within the first few bars lead you into the Nige and Trev experience at full speed and without the comfort of seat belts. The thing is with music of this nature, and this is also true of the entire album, you might have your foot guarding the brake pedal at times, but you absolutely don't want anything to stop!

Nige and Trev are the product of the versatile and fertile inspiring's and imaginings of Mick Clack, Frank Fish, Paul Gibbon, Sarah Reeve, Dale Marshall, Janie Shorter, and Perry Smith. Equally guilty of having things to do with the offerings of 'Mechanics of Sorrow, Torn Hearts, and Frank Fish and the Fins, these are highly accomplished and gifted musicians, and in order to be as equally amazed as I have been in enjoying their work, all you really have to do is listen for yourself.

Naomi And I We're Trees......Nige and Trev
Brief: Alright, another meld, but totally different this time. James Brown meets the B52's meets Prince meets Blackbeard the Pirate.

Review
Songwriting (7 of 10) Although still a very interesting song, this song did not draw me in quite as much as "The living World..." I loved the original lyrics however, and the more I listened to the song, the more it grew on me.

Vocals (7 of 10) Again, there is great diversity in the vocals and lyrics. The verses are well delivered, and I really love the female accents throughout.

Music (8 of 10) The music reminds me of the cool R&B music that James Brown sings over. There are some interesting Prince style guitar riffs mixed throughout as well, which I enjoyed. The music is well performed and recorded.

Overall (7 of 10) Naomi and I We're Trees was a very enjoyable listen. Especially notable, the unique lyrics and melding of music styles. The accent guitars, and female accent vocals, provided a very unique ambience over a diverse R&B style rhythm.

Thanks NIGE and TREV. What a unique experience. Thank you very much for bringing your music to our attention. Good luck with your continued music career

The Living World of Sea Creatures .........Nige & Trev
Brief: Very Cool! You really don't sound like anybody else out there, but let me take a stab at a particular meld. They Might Be Giants meets Jack Black meets Bob Dylan meets Tom Waits... This is not your typical song!

Review
Songwriting (8 of 10) Very original songwriting here, and I appreciate original songwriting! I love hearing something for the first time and thinking, how did they come up with that!? That is exactly what happened to me after listening to "The Living World of Sea Creatures." In fact, it was still happening after the 3rd listen as well.

Vocals (8 of 10) The Vocals are great, and there are plenty of different vocal sounds to listen to. Lots of character voices, animal sounds, whistles, grunts and groans. I also love the female vocals that sing the title of the song. The combined effect is nice!

Music (8 of 10) The drums and bass keep a standard upbeat rhythm throughout. The accordian, electric, and acoustic guitars carry the mood changes, and do so very well. All the instruments are played and recorded very well.

Overall (8 of 10) I am a big believer and fan of originality, and that's what you get here, in spades. I like the upbeat feel of the songs, and the cast of characters that deliver the vocals. The music is very entertaining. For a good time...... Listen!!

Nige and Trev and their Life-size Working Model of the Planet Earth - 'Stamp Out M-M-M-Madness in the Air'
Houston we have a problem.
Something very strange is heading to earth and when it gets here things could get pretty ugly.
I don't know what to say? I don't really know what Nige and Trev expect me to say!

The warped Oxfordshire duo have sent me their 75 minute epic album of mental noise, and they want some kind of comprehensible review!
After listening to the first 15 minutes I went into a dark room to rock gently while muttering about the blithering squirrels.
I've only just stopped barking at people and dribbling down my top.
If you want to know how this happened, press on the first audio button below...

The track you just listen to is called "The Living World of Sea Creatures (Makes Me Want to Whistle)" and it's not too bad is it? It certainly wouldn't have had the afore mentioned effect.
Now click on the next audio button...Okay, now the problem is becoming apparent. They told me their arch enemy was: The bloke who booked Nige and Trev for a gig at Oxford City FC Supporters Club and assured them that "They'll love ALL your songs. You'll go down a storm!"

Later they explained how one of their most eventful gigs was when they were booed and slow-hand-clapped off stage at the old Oxford City FC Supporters Club by hundreds of angry foreign students who were expecting a disco.

You've got to feel sorry for them. Not Nige and Trev, the poor students!

I could handle the first song but didn't have the kind of mental preparation that might have got me through the rest of the 70 odd minutes of "gibbering pandemonium".

Try it, at your own risk.

Thumbs out of five...three.
(And I am only giving them this because I liked their film script.)

Nige and Trev describe their music as a film
Nige: (In Robert de Niro voice)"Are you looking at me?
Trev:(Hurling a Nige and Trev CD into the canal) "No. I'm looking at the blank wall above the fireplace trying to imagine a Fender Burtreynoldsacaster hanging there."
Nige: There's always seventeen people in a party of eighteen who spoil it for the rest of them."
Trev: Give me back my baby donkey.
