Reviews
Hey Guys....
Now remember this is an ole lady who didn't think Elvis was that great even in his heyday. Sorry Richard LOL

I love New Orleans jazz, Opera, Big Band era, lots of Country, contemporary jazz and assorted other music only because I happen to like the way it sounds.

I gave the "GONE WILD" Cd a serious listen again. In f act I listened to it a couple more times sooooooooooooooooooo this iswhat I like about certain songs.

The Good Ole Boys

Rob you could not possibly sing a bad song even if you tried .Your voice sounds so smooth. The difference between notes go together like the blending of a fine wine.

Heaven Aboves

Great lyrics. I especially like Nils keyboard

Achilles

I liked that one when I heard the first mix and this finished product is great. I just happen to like instrumentals. Again Nils knows his way around a keyboard

Don't Need Them Blues

Carols contribution really adds something different to thesong and I thinks that something is definitely a plus.

Montage

Great music flow. Richard, I think this is by far the best vocal that I have heard thus far. You and Rob blend really well in this song.

El Pronto Mofo

I really really like Nils Spanish Guitarwork. He obviously knows how to play this instrument and if he has a CD with this type of instrumental I would buy it and recommend it.

Ditto

Of all the songs this one catches my ear because I like the blends and Rob your voice is again fantastic. You could sing to me anytime.

Introspective / Outrospective
This song sounds almost mystic and don't ask were I get that from because I have no idea

Turn Out the Lights

Hmmmmmmmmmm Only because I'm an ole battered lady but I'm not crazy about the lead-in but getting past that I like the rest of the blend

Again Matt - Love your Owl. That was a real surprise. I like the eyes especially. Menacing but strong and determined which I think is what the album is all about. Well guys you asked. Just keep up the great work.

My Thoughts Thus Far....
Richard's thoughts:

1. Don't Need Them Blues

- This was an old lyric that I had written, Rob and I had planned to work with several musicians on another project called the Link Allstars, but after being lead around the bushes by one of the other main songwriters that project was nixed. When this project came up I figured we could use this lyric, it was one of those lyrics that I envisioned coming to life in a special
way, and so too had it proved.

2. War Of Words

- This is a song all about how pathetic we as humans can be, we put ourselves
into silly situations and only make things worse by digging bigger holes as we go.
Every now and then we will delve into this kind of a subject matter because things going on in the world are serious and need our attention! I enjoyed my contributing to the vocals on this one.

3. Escape

- It's recently come to my attention that Nils-Ole had an instrumental track with
the same name, thats fine. This lyric was written especially for this project. From the get-go we knew it had to be an ass kicker. During vocal recording sesssions and playbacks I figured we were onto a winner here.

4. Turn Off The Lights

- This was one of the last lyrics I wrote before my recent travels to the USA, the lads managed to turn the music into something pretty different. This was a real challenge for me taking the lead vocalists chair for this song as it a hard one to nail, but we got there !.

5. Heavens Above

- This is probably going to be one of my favourite songs on the album...its
a stunning track. I enjoyed the cameo narration bit that Rob got me to do on this puppy.

6. Don't Wanna Be A Star

- I figured that I could contribute more than just lyrics (I didn't know I was going
to be doing some vocals on this project until recently) so came up with a melody for this song, musicially Rob's intro came by accident, a brilliant accident, although some people don't really GET IT....There is a certain Jim Morrison/Billy Idol vibe to this song...It's definitely one of my favourite GW numbers so far.

7. Gone Wild

- I was never one for having tracks named after the artist or the album, but something told me we should just go for it this time. Rob and I had a ball recording our vocals on this one, I for one can vouch for how difficult the "gone wild" bits were to record in synch...Rob's pet sheep went mad listening to this track during a production playback...

8. Montage

- This is another of my favourite tracks, im sure once all the production is
complete it will resonate well with all the players. It was also a good opportunity
to get my friend Chris Szkup onboard, I figured it would be a good way to test the waters as Rob and Chris might well be working together on something in the future. Everyone contributed something amazing to make this song work...No doubt it was a producers nightmare though.

9. Comfort Within

- Here we have a song with a deep hidden meaning, one im not oblidged to dispell...we'll leave it up to the listener. Rob and I tweaked the lyric a tad during vocal recording sessions.

10. Introspective/Outrospective

- This song has the oldest lyric on the album, I wrote this at a time when I had been writing a lot of things...it was a difficult time in my life in fact (which for me have always been the most prolific of periods music wise). This song is actually something I wrote the lyric for with a rock opera in mind (I have written a rough script for what I called "Hope From Fear", which I will work on some day and bring together in some form...) ...the end result wouldn't remind anyone of too many rock opera's currently in production, Nilsy went mad with the geetars and I got forced into a Lemmy (Motorhead) meets George Thorogood vibe vocally. For me this song is so different to anything else i've ever been involved in, based upon that fact alone i love it !

11. El Pronto Mofo

- It was in an email to Chris Szkup that this song title came about, again this is
one of my favourite songs musically on the album. Rob really loved this song from the get-go. The lyric is about a particular person...guess who ???? I wrote the lyric on my mother-in-laws front porch while sucking back on both a Coke and Cigarette (not at once however, I am not that talented !@!)

12. Achilles (Instrumental)

- It was mooted that there be an instrumental track on the album, Rob put this one together, We wanted the musicians on the project to be able to show off some of their playing without being anal about it. I think we have a winner here.

13. Ditto

- Rob decided it might be an idea to let Nils-Ole take centre stage on what was going to be an instrumental, I think they managed to come up with a good medium where they play nicely together. It's always cool to hear contrasting players come together...which is basically what this album is all about really. In the end the idea to keep it as an instrumental was changed, so I was instructed to write a lyric for this track...I think it worked out well for Rob who had to sing this bugger LOL

14. The Good Ole Boys

- This is a funtime type song, in fact it took a while before I completed the lyric for this song...I think Rob looked forward to singing this one. Indeed it has gone on to be one of the band's signature tunes (along with "Escape" and "Heavens Above") and has recieved quite a bit of airplay all over the world for us, to which we are extremely grateful.

Matt Sturgess - My Thoughts

Ok then guys, you're making me feel guilty for not commenting on the album. I'd normally say little at first. (you may have noticed. lol) So here tis.

Playing new songs a few times gives me an overall sound. I'd normally listen to bass the most but being the one playing it gave me an opportunity to listen to different aspects of the songs. A unique something I’ve rather enjoyed. Hearing the songs for the first time with vocals was quite a shock. I’d gotten used to just the instruments. What a pleasant shock it was. Over all, the album is bloody good. I love it. I have some tunes I like more than others, which is to be expected.

Number one for me is "The Good Ole Boys". This one really has the mojo when it comes to a great groove. I enjoyed this probably the most when recording it too. Robin said something about Quadraphonic performing one or two. I think this should be one to do live. Objections anyone?

"War Of Words" takes me back about 20 years when I was playing With Rob in The Candles. I see the Red Room every time I hear it. Nils, that sound you have on this is perfect. I didn’t think it would sound as good as it does. On ya mate.

"Don’t Wanna Be A Star" is BRILLIANT!Quadraphonic would do this well too. The vocals are amazing. What a rocker it is.

"Achilles" is friggin great. Rob is his usual brilliant and talented virtuoso and Nils creates an awesome GW sound with keys. Like the bass too.

"Gone Wild" kicks ass. I can see the audience slamin and bangin all over the floor.

"Heavens Above" is also one of my favorite songs. Nils has such subtle feel on keys and gives it that special something. Robs vocals are again brilliant. Richard sounds quite the majestic one don’t he?. We know better aye Richard. :-)

"Escape" really pulls outa ya driveway doesn't it? Had heaps of fun playing this one. Must have done about 30 or 40 takes before I got it. Paid off though. This song is awesome.

I was always going to like "Don’t Need Them Blues". I’m a blues fan all the way. This goes deep south and it ROCKS. Carol delivers that blues thang ya need and Keys, oh the keys. Yehaa!

"Montage". What can I say. Such a cool song. Acoustic guitar delivers another aspect tucked in nicely next to the keys. And a really memorable melody. Then there’s the guitars talking away to each other. What a conversation that is. Chris is one hell of a guitar player.

"El Pronto Mofo". I just love the nylon and Nils has talent in spades. The vocals are great as well. Richard gives it a kinda different but kinda Iggy feel. Like it.

"Ditto" is another great and unique song. I like the changes. Robs singing nailed it. And such a great arrangement. Didn’t know this was going to sound as good as it does.

"Introspective/Outrospective". An interesting beginning and equally interesting vocals. Nils once again comes out with yet another side to his musical prowess with some slide work. Brilliant. And Rob lifts the timbre with his wicked lead lines. The whole thing just clicks together.

"Comfort Within" sounds awesome. I was wondering how the bass would sound on this as I don’t play slap bass as a rule. The overall on this is way up there. Love it.

I was waiting for the howl when "Turn Out The Lights" came on. Cool. It’s a goodun. Great vocals and guitars all round. And the light switch at the end is a nice touch.

Overall Gone Wild is worth having in your collection. It’s my first real effort at recording on an album and I’m proud of it. Didn’t we do well?

Matt
