Sitzen, takes me back many years in a fashion. Good memories of a time when I had hope that I could make a difference to the world. I'm still trying, just with less hope than I had. Good, quite hard, reverberations come across and entertain me well. Like it a lot. Energetic again and the end piece is fantastic. Face Unbegrenzt has a strong, almost imposing feel to it. Assertive music that puts me in a good frame of mind. Nice work.
Aussehen has a cyber punk style to it, very cool for someone who had a mohican at 14 and a pierced nostril, and all the anti-establishment attitude I could muster. That was the thirty years ago and I'm due for a new haircut!-) Transzendenz und Immanenz has a unique sound to it and is a bit more down tempo, though the inbuilt energy remains. That's a nifty achievement methinks. Good consistency. Makes me think of an electronically twisted version of Overground by Siouxsie and the Banshees, which is an ace of a track.
Wind is the most mellow track start so far and it is a lovely stereophonic play, with a beautiful melodiousness to it. Very enjoyable, with echoes of what has gone on before it, which I think is a very appropriate and clever touch to the composition. Liegen picks the tempo back up a bit with some nice assertive percussion with symphonic symbiosis working very well together. Then there is a reminder of that more radical sensation with the power and energy back again, to finish off an absolutely fantastic album.
A must check out album this is!
A glissade of strings takes you through the Streets of Suburbia, through tree-lined avenues with a gently warming sunshine on your face. Lovely melodiousness from the synthetic sound and bass, warms you up to a gentle voice, that lulls the senses. The tune carries you beautifully and builds elegantly, with a scattering of percussion. A pedestrian paradise indeed, where no dogs do bark.
Silence. Again, more gentleness and soulful meanderings with the voice layer intertwining with the melody, which brings on some nice freeform percussion. Quite stark at first but it soon blends in perfectly well, forming a whole bigger than the parts from which it is made. How to depict silence, when there is no such thing, but with an interpretation, and this is more than just a valid subjectivism. It's a magical trip into sound manipulation trying to be nothing and suceeding in placating the stress of my day, so something subliminally creeps into the construction to soothe my ragged nerves. And thirteen is my lucky number for sure. Even on a Friday. Quite sensual with its gentle strokes as it encapsulates that which is quiet. Then towards the end an echoing fanfare in tribute of Silence, with an angelic chorus floating in the aetheric realm into which my spirit now is. Thanks for that one. Very nice.
Fog has a misty sense of drama about it, and continues the overall sense of perfect ease with which this music besets the senses. It's like a aural massage of the mind. Wonderful that sound can gain such profundity in its effect. I love the drums again, but then I was once a drummer myself, and now how difficult it is to get it right, instead of just bashing away. That has its place and this is not it, here it fits in brilliantly. A smattering of organwork as the track recovers and works its way to the end.
The following track, Touch Me, does touch profoundly. It is a sweet suite of suitable sounds and combinations. Nice work with the vocals, again the consistency of the music remains overall, the final track patiently waiting for me to hear it. Not insistent just waiting. And then here it is, almost like it's the whole point of the album in a curious sense, all things being subjective! Still that gentle touch, but somehow maybe a touch more profound and a summation of the sense of holism, that I picked up on earlier, like a prophetic insight to how this album would end. That's one word: beautifully. A fine accomplishment by Cometa. Thanks for sharing this elegant album.
super Album.
29/12/08 The title implies repetition in itself, I think. Life is mostly repetitious, with the odd scattering of chaos to throw the proverbial spanner into the works. Cells, the basis of our existence are full of repeated tasks that they need to maintain in order to survive. Molecular existence must be boring! Or, is it?
That music should be perceived as repetitive, as you say, might be the whole point. I love listening between the notes and beats as much as I like reading between the lines. Cometa are one of my favourites so, I'm inherently biased but this is an interesting side-project and very good mood food, with its simple, straightforward minimalist electro sound (which I happen to love anyway).
I can remember listening to vinyl records and the surface scratches, which were inevitable to various degrees, became part of the music. The allocative form has to have inherent flaws because that is the way of the nature of communication. Music, and other creative artforms, sometimes take this into consideration, and I generally find them more amenable as a result. A kind of 'warts and all' perspective in judgement.
All my rambling aside, this is a thoroughly enjoyable and pleasant album. Lovely creativity here and, hopefully in the next life too!-)
28/12/08 The first track reminds me of a childhood I once had, when dreams where still possibilities and the possibilities were endless. So, here I am, a lifetime on, still inspired by Weather Report's 'Domino Theory', still searching. This is a nice album, a pleasant atmosphere and sense of being, mildness personified.
However, the upshot is that after a listen I am inclined to agree a lot with AKheon.
Minimalistic and ponderous electronic music. The instruments might not sound impressive at first, but getting stuck on that particular point would be an underestimation and misjudgement of this album. In effect it is really hypnotic to listen on a longer basis (and just look at the track lengths...). This is the sort of music which makes time stop when you put it on. Suddenly there's no hurry in the world. This album adheres only to its own laws of physics and ideals, it's a world of its own. At the very least its a passing reflection of something objective, not conceivable by words.
I give it only 4 stars out of 5 because towards the end the effect seems to disperse a bit. Still, a very captivating listen.
Beautifully resonating cold atmosphere in Sand In My Hand. There has to be a tacit acceptance of the futility, even if only physically. Which then makes it seem a bit bleak in outlook, so maybe focusing on things as an experience rather than positing a world-view is a way through our tangled tapestries of life. The sensation of the journey for its sake, we all will eventually 'arrive', but then the length of the track and reiteration engenders the cyclical nature of so much of nature. And that, we are inevitably a distinct, if at times somewhat curious, part of, and life goes on regardless. This seems to be backed up as the music changes its tone, as if phasic transition were underway, rehabilitation, reconstruction, revival, reflection. Irresistable...
The Leaves Are Green retains the somewhat sombre air, with lovely pulsations of organicity. A beat and melody to celebrate this joy of living and growth takes place and lighten things nicely. But then, like a palindrome it slips back into it's organic soup for a while, but the beat wins out.
Out Into The Void, tinkles like sunshine through an icy stalagtite, as you eavesdrop on the mumbled conversation the universe is going through. Flowers is a heavily scented bunch of noise and big rhythmic structures. Formidably pretty towards the pointed ending.
Glass is that rounded piece that you find on a windswept beach on a blustery overcast day. Life going on all around and no-one else in sight, just you and the world. Finished with a jazzy, percussion led flourish at the end. Life can be good and all good things must come to their end.
Poetry Blanked is harder to read between the lines, you have to be in the right mood for it, and it does need to be said rather than read. I say, hopefully you read. Nice sense of orientalism in this track, resonates like bamboo in a glissade of percussion. A waterfall of eartHbeat. I let you figure the anagram.
A Presence certainly presents itself assiduously and retains a subtle, tenuous link on you with its beautiful minimalism. Gentle layers of silky music over the unremitting backdrop, softer than rose petals. A player goes through their lines and underlines in piano noises. The fluting, again an orientalist feel to it.
Not Forever, the title track has a melancholic start but comes up smelling of roses like the Dead Can Dance. Lovely flourishes of synthetic tide.
Under A Tree resonates under layers of musical leaves as they fall. The autumn of the album. I like reading under trees.
Ants and Bees a lovely, reminiscent epilogue to a fantastic album.
If Not Forever, maybe another time.
Arrive sounds more positive from the start, like a new beginning, it asserts itself as a track quickly, with some nice nusound ring to it. Dust continues the profundity, after all what do we end up as sooner or later! Again, a nice fusion of musical sources, slightly reminiscent of Stereolab.
All Around Us is an almost jazzy interpretaion of perspectivism perhaps. Through, deep and profound, accepting maybe even a sense of resignation. The River of Life becomes a bit livelier, but from a natural point of view life has to be optimistic ultimately. Nice ambience and flow. As for the last track, not a very positive title but one which I and, hopefully others, will empathisize with.
Sometimes the ruins aren't even of a battle, not necessarily dramatic, but having said that, nonetheless ruinous. Nice album!-)
A gorgeous cacophany of voices cascade into your ears, then the track comes into play to find an equilibrium that echoes its fortitude in the face of adversity, Changeless it is. The Circus Around Us beats resonating beautifully, then the progressive minimalism comes into play. I like to call it complex. But then, so is the circus. Nice track, vocals mimimalist as well, which is cool with me (as usual). Maybe that's AKheon's 'lush'. And, so it dissipates and minimalises the minimalism, then a reprise which was a surprise!-)
Krautrock tingles the senses and teases you into liking it, then it brings you the rock in its diminuitive form and it works really well, taking the essence of form and stretching it out to its' maximum tolerance. Nice ending. An Ocean Of Words (OK sometimes my 'reviews' get a bit out of hand, j'accuse...) is like a long goodbye, a plaintive yearning for epiphany even. Quite insubstantial but disproportionately effective. Good sound management.
Across The Water. Here, in England everything seems to be about being 'across the water', but being on an island is an advantage sometimes and water can be so temperamental around our coasts. The track is nice and buoyant, lush indeed!-)
Then there is the eponymous title track, You Are My Sad Love. It is really nice, like bisexualism in binary. Quaintly plaintive. Puppy dog eyes, done well:-) I've Been Here Before comes back with firm assertiveness, some of us have indeed and so will continually, and even if it produces such beautiful music as cometa does, then it would have been worth it surely. It has a very good atmosphere from what seems to be so little when you try to examine it. Subatomic minimalism, that will be the next genre.
Disappear seems quite sinister but in such a disarming manner, it's not quite clear what the mood seems to connotate, if anything. It is very calm, perhaps in the sense of a lucid confirmation, a resolution to do just that. You, or do you mean me. A miniscule fanfare to being who you are, in whatever configuration, a tribute to the self and a good album. Thanks for sharing the moments.
Cool voice samples pull the track through a hedge into a field of electronic grass, it is in a sense Perfect, as it runs around waving it's musical arms. Meet starts with drums and percussion and trumpets its way into my attention. I like the layers of sound that accompany the tone of the track. It has a good pace and maintains interest very well, although its variations are maybe a little too subtle in places. I'm impressed that Cometa have pulled off a fifteen minute track and kept me entertained for so long. Ending was a bit abrupt.
Now After Night, another track of epic proportion, but much more slowly paced than the former track. The melody is simple, supported by a subtle rumbling sound. In a sense this being declared as, amongst other things, improv/repetitive, gives me an understanding that for music to be communicated, without the inescapable infinite number of variables that effect transmission and reception, it would have to be standardised. I don't think, unless as part of a genuine scientific experiment, that would be tolerable, especially on Jamendo. However, look at the trash mainstream throw at us, there is a lot of standardisation because it makes money, regardless of the 'art' itself.
I'd rather have the art...
The track actually works for me, the wind instrument layer was just rig
Movimento is a nice tranquil piece of music. Ambient#1 Over The Office, still very serene, with scatterings of percussion to help the general movement, with some nice dramatic touches. Track three is in my head anyway, it's brilliantly minimalist. Ambient#3 eases its' way in, in a similar way, with lilting synthetics and a hint of rhythm. Then bass takes its place, until it phases out ambiently. Finally, finding its equilibrium.
Violin C143 is a simple, but dramatic little interlude. Quite assertive in a calm, firm way. Ambient#4 blossoms and caresses, and curls up in your lap. Liked the reverberating ending. Ambient#2 Sergio starts confidently, nice sense of depth, to which the voice sample only adds to. This is turning out to be a very good track, with some nice minimalism.
Mirror reflects the talent of Cometa!-) Assimilation II has a funureal air and ambience. Violin C124 again, a lovely little piece of passion. The Space Inside Everyone is exquisite and may reside long in my soul. Light Spiral has a lovely, positive power to it. All in all, I really liked this one, thanks!-)
Son univers dramatique est glacial,dépersonnalisé;
Complimenti
Va bene cosi
But I have no idea if this interpretation is anywhere close to the artist's original intention...
The last song is different from the first two, dragging on without the oppressiviness that fueled the other songs. Overall it's still a good EP, not perfect but just good.
02/12/07Pleasant-spirited synthscapes and rhythms, coming together as something that could be mistaken for electronic new age. Scarce vocals that sound sampled and processed, to an interesting effect. Normal rhythm instruments are used sparingly and in a very cool manner, helping texture above anything else. It's nice to listen to, but it also has enough content and versatility to stand out for itself - that is, not remain as mere background music. The song titles are intriguing. It's worth it if you like your music energetic and benevolent (with a slight dark and mystic edge).
Cometa has a sort of minimalistic but still lush approach to synth-based electronic music. Processed and heavily echoing singing, some polyrhythms creating texture, slow change with new melodies and sounds eventually crowding up the mood. Vibrant and adventurous, though sometimes a tad cheesy because of how the vocals sound.
