SONG: SAME THANG
GENRE: RAP / DIRTY SOUTH
SIMILAR: METHOD MAN / DMX

Alright! I've been trying to hone my rap reviewing skills, by focusing on the different styles, and by watching BET, which I've never had the chance to watch. And now, because of this, I'm gaining a wider appreciation for the genre.
Family Is Tight (FIT) is a group that must appreciate the genre as much as I do, because their music is as tight as their act. They've got style, talent, and beats that don't quit!
"Same Thang" may first start out sounding like the same thing you always hear, but it's got creative edge, and as the song progresses, the tune claws its way quietly into your head. The lyrics ARE catchy ... I found myself trying to rap along, after five or six listens. That's definitely a good thing, because the problem I have seen with independent rappers is that their lyrics and their raps sound amateurish. FIT doesn't have that problem, not by a long shot.
The fact that the chorus is just as catchy lyrically as the musical backdrop for this track shows that "Same Thang" is a track that would do well with airplay; if after only a few listens, you find yourself repeating the chorus, that's a sign that your music is worth requesting. If people would be willing to ask to hear a song like this, FIT has a chance to make it into the rap spotlight. I think that's exactly where they'll be in just a matter of time.
Check this track out! It's definitely worth hearing, and it's also worth repeating, not just a song to hear and discard. FIT is certainly tight, and their song is going places.
