Moe, great lyrics. Simple, I got it the first time. The aristotelian critique would go thus: the point of the song is the cancer of pessimism, and how it wrecks the blossoming of a relationship. You start with a generalized statement about the nature of love, and use the dice analogy to get at fate and fortune. You give a taste of the punch line, ("i guess that isnt news") ie... "im sick of that refrain"
The hook is well developed, and the chorus delivers.
Emotionally, you evoke frustration....memories of past relationships where treading water was the theme...
