--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lyrically and emotionally this is one of the best hardcore rap songs I've ever heard. The recording is smooth and my bass was f'n thumpin' dog. Vocals are killer and believeable, man. I think this one's got some serious market potential. I would shorten it a bit though with less samples up in front of the song, and maybe cut a verse out because at about 3:30 the beat was gettin' a little too repetitive. Hot song that could go to the top with some tweaks... get it down to 3:30 & it'll be radio ready.

- DrGroupie from Rockton, Illinois on 14Jun2004

Full on hiphop soul!
Like the tinny radio sounding intro that kicks into the full on music! Very good rappin vocals complimented by a nice female moan!
When the piano riff kicks in again at the 1 minute mark that does something for me!!It gets a little repetative after around 2min30 mark but in my view that piano roll saves it! Good stuff though!
Good quality production with a chilled yet upliftin mood!

Good for a love song
The hook on this track is hot, probably the best thing about this track. I like the flow and the lyrics as well. Sometimes it's hard to pull off such an emotionally deep song, especially as an intro to your work as an artist, but this track definitely makes me interested in checking out further efforts. Reminds me slightly of Outkast, keep on doin ya thang yo.
- mcwattson from Saint Louis, Missouri on 12Jun2004

well Arrangemed
nice intro I like the build up to delivery the female vocals gave it a nice feel too the mc ripped it and the sound quality was on point

rest in peace
I like the washed-out, cheap radio sounding beat on the intro. The real beat drops in perfectly. I'm not really moved by the sista singer, but she does have a great voice for her style. The recording quality really hurts this track, as the cymbals and the vocals have a lot of "SSSSS" and POP. The piano hook is good, but it the beat needed a lot more going on to keep the song interesting. The mc at 2:00 posesses a lot of good confidence in his voice. When asking for comments on arrangement, keep in mind how little this song changed or progressed. This arrangement is sophomoric at best (ex: the little dropdown at 3:20 & 3:58 are the only changes happening).

Arrangement is fine but the lyrics and mood really set the pace in this song. nice to have female vocal in the backgroud. I love the mid-fi quality.

Very Nice over Ice
This is a nice track because it has the rap style to it, with a pop chorus, and quality verses. I was feelin this track. I'm sure a lot of the passion from this track stems from the subject matter being so personal. Delivery is great, lots of emotion. Flow is flawless so far as I could tell. This is a great song. Sorry I can't give any advice, this track is already dope. Keep puttin out quality like this, you'll be sucessful. Stay up. RIP to your dad.

Quite original
The backing track on here is wonderful. A lot of action throughout the board, featuring various vocal tracks, a piano track and a beat that seems to be recorded over more than one track. I like the effect in the beginning, giving the backing track the feel of someone recorded on a very cheap tape recorder. The vocals in the beginning are full of soul and hint at where this song will evolve.
I couldn't hear the lyrics too well (no fault of the track itself), but the feel it gives me is of some kind of testament - the rapper is pledging something - his devotion, his love, maybe the fact he's going to change himself for the girl he's in love with. I might have gotten it all wrong though...
- marchingband from Rehovot, Non-Us, Israel on 7Jun2004

Super-Tight
The originality on this song is unsurpasssable. i loved the rnb vocals on it and the feel it gives to it. Hot track and lyrics.

Well Produced
This track really came together well, definetely a lot of talent here, yall could go places if you keep this up.
Lryics: the lyrics were great, well delivered too, thats a good thing.
Arangement: At first it started off slow , but than it really dropped, that was hot
Mood: Good mood in this track, touchy subject but you spit it well.

nice
something different but i like it, especially the singing, nice melody, the lyrics are intensely real, a lotta father songs up here right now, i think that the singing should still play a role in the verses, it gets kinda dry at points, good luck
- bizniss from Greenville, North Carolina on 5Jun2004
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
powerful rap
the fm-effect intro sounds nice, breaks into the rapping well too, really has a good effect on the listener. the beat is perfect, it's punchy, the hihat sounds really good too. the lyrics sound meaningful and the subject sounds very personal. the hook could probably have been done a little better, its good, dont get me wrong. but another element to it would have been good, maybe some more backing vocals or something. good song though.
- stephen_music from Unspecified on 5Jun2004

Likin' it...
I'm likin' the intro with the female vocals... When the beat kick in it caught me... The lyrics are very good and well thought out... It put me in a mature mood, and I get the message of how we take things for granted so much... I like how you set up the story and flow. And im sorry about your father, and if anyone else lost a father and listened to this, im sure they'd be hooked and it would pull some tears... also I like how you talked about your memories at the end, and explained your influence of why you rap and do what you do... I respect you greatly, and you got a fan... Keep it real man...

good intro
I like the mood this track imeaditaly sets off. Almost every rapper has some distancing from their father in child hood. The lyrical content fits, is on time. Nice production, I think it's the female singing on this one that gets me.
- theRukiz from Maumee, Ohio on 3Jun2004
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
comments
the lyrics were kind of simple. the arrangement made the track because the singing behind the chorus was tight instead of it just being the singing. the mood was perfect for what the track was about.
- critical_mindz from Batesville, Mississippi on 3Jun2004

Not just another club hit
This can pass as a legitmatly good song. It was well structured and the lyrics seemed meaningful rather then just trying to make a hit with meaningless catchy phrases. It came off as a serious mood, if thats what was being shot for good job.

Phone tones and microphones
I recently lost someone and you're choking me up. Most songs I review here don't envoke much emotion except annoyance. This isn't the case. The production sounds pretty good. The beat is really really nice. As a producer, I would have chosen a few samples differntly, but otherwise, very clean. The phone tone that I mentioned in the beginning was a cool effect to add. I have to admit I was praying that wasn't the whole beat, lol. The way it ended could have been smoother, but other than that, I pretty solid track. Keep doin what you do.

love the instrumental
the melody is great, and the singing goes great with it. i usually like more rhyming. the lyrics are a little too mainstream for me, but i can't tell you to do anything better cause i know this will sell. everybody would love it because of the beat, and your lyrics definitely have their audience

I really can't think of who you sound like. Unlike some people I don't hear a song and instantly think "stop trying to sound like.......". When I first heard the talking in the intro I thought of KRS-1. There are some interesting adlibs in the beat that kinda remind me of someone else, but I can't think of who. I have heard some overseas rappers whose voice sounds similar.
The production is tight. The beat has a nice groove to it, and I like the rhytm, and I like some of the little extra moving parts thrown into the beat. This is a professional sounding beat.
The artists have some tight lyrics and a nice flow. They sound like good MCs who have perfected thier style.

REVIEW
TRACK SOUNDS COOL, NICE SAMPLE THE BEAT TOGETHER SOUNDS OL' SCHOOL, KINDA BOUNCES LIKE THAT. PERFORMANCE WAS GOOD FROM THE MC, SAYING ALOT. I THINK THE VOCS IN THE HOOK NEED ANOTHER EFFECT ON IT TO SEPERATE THE LEAD AND THE HOOK.
DON'T KNOW WHO YOU SOUND LIKE BUT IT'S ALL GOOD.
- KINGBEATS from Indio, California on 17Jun2004

hot track
The beat is really nice. I like how it's simple but adds in samples to change it up. The mc does a good job riding the beat. Lyrics are pretty clever. Overall it has a classic style and smoothness. Great use of samples and breakdowns.

Real Hip Hop! Finally!
The beat is hot! its familiar, but fresh, it really doesn't get more hip hop than this, good samples, the strings are classssic, and the cuts and sample drops are well planned, and precise (especially that biggie drop), though I do notice a piece missing in one of the string scale samples, like it was edited for content or something, kinda distracting actually. the drums, once again, scream hip hop, and are tight and punchy, is that an MPC2000 I hear? the flow is like water, years of experience coming out of those vocal cords, and he's proud of what he does, like every good hip hopper, but unlike some out there, he's got the flow to back it up. It's exciting, and keeps your attention easily. the hook is just as intriguing, and old school reminiscient in its sound. you can tell he's done his homework, and studied the old school, while staying firmly planted in the new. who do you sound like? hmm.. a mix of akinyele from NY, common, (partly cuz of those smooth strings) a little wyclef, and jaydee from detroit (co-producer for common's electric circus). nice track, but you know that already don't ya?

Dope Track, Great Lyricist
Can't really think if you sound like another artist, all I can say is great lyricist... lot of confidence... you sound a little midwest, little bit of early 90's NYC going on too... but could work for today's scene. Maybe not the pop audience, but for real hiphop fans who appreciate lyrical olympics. Good voice. The production is top notch. The track has an original feel... drum beat with the synth/sampler wont let you sit still, which obviously is a very good thing. These cats are ready for bigger things.

Greatness
The vocalist has mad skills. The rapping style and lyrics go quite well with the track, but the track itself can get kind of distracting and old. Overall, though, the track is awesome. The production is better than most, but it could be better (there is a kind of "fuzzy" sound to the recording I'm hearing). That's not a matter of your performance skills, though. You're gonna get somewhere, son. Personally, you sound like Outkast to me, but that's just my opinion. I'm an amateur to this business. But from fresh ears, the your sound is good, the track could be more enjoyable, and the rapping couldn't be better. Nice job.

Great song to put on the way to the club. Love the mood it puts me. I belive you guys sound pretty original i cant really think of a group that sounds like you guys but if i had to say i would think of a cross of The roots and outkast. Great job none the less.

Like the production
1 – Performance
Good delivery and overall message. Very professional sounding.
2 – Production
Nice clear sound. Very smooth track. Patch samples and plug-ins are a little off but barely noticeable. Very good vocal balance with the track. Good job on the subtle vocal effects.
3 - Who Do We Sound Like?
The artist has a sort of 2pac flow on a Westside track.

No reason this shouldn't be all over the radi..
Nice production; seems to be geared for for some airplay, but it's not TOO poppy. The MC has obviously done his homework; there's a nice blend of old and nw school flavors. Nice consistent flow. Keep up the great work.

Y2k compliant oldschool

This kid can flow, I dig it... Your trebles are high, but that might just be the conversion to Mp3. Be careful about claiming yourself to be the greatest of all time; you are good but you might be stepping on some toes (Eminem, KRS-1, Andre'3000, Biggy, Tupac, Nas, etc...). Just be humble and your raps will be more poignant. Nice effort!

Your final words were "cool"
your performance had me from the beginning. I'd watch you guys live. I'm not gonna say who you sound like, because I don't do that to other bands, and of course, I don't like my band being treated like that. The Golden Rule, right? Your production of this track was great, almost professional, it had great hooks along in it, and I daresay, I would like to help someday with the production. Work hard, and you'll make it to the top!

I like the premier beat
the joint has got a good flow, sounds like old school. But the beat has a nice premier style to it. Is there such thing as alternative rap? Because this style has disappeared from hip hop due to all the murder rap. Need this a little bit right now.

plugging your brain into an amplifier!
Interesting, intelligent, well-produced rap. Lyrically you keep my mental energies working, thinking, and interested. Very well done! I've always thought that rapping is closest to plugging your brain into an amplifier! This song shows that. :)

Tight
Are you a signed artist?
Where you get the beat..on the the real...keep it on the low. Im listenin to this in the library and this track helped me catch a girls eye. This track is long for a demo soould be 3-4 minutes. The beat sounded dope but somewhat too long a loop gets tiring to listen too. Good Delievery.

Drop this cut homie. Press up your 12"s and let it make some noise for you. Your flow is smooth. as it goes on... you need a better hook... redo your hook... something more commercial (if you want to get paid) easier, more simple hook... TRACK off the hook... If you dont want to redo the song.. sell the track to me... Im feeling it... HOLLA!!! ...and you dont sound like anyone... thats good!!!

Killer Hooks
The sound production was virtually perfect. The beats were up front but didn't take away from the vocals or samples. The flow of the first emcee was sooooo tight. Really impressed. The samples worked but by the end of the song were getting on nerves a bit. Not seriously though. Can't place who this group sounds like. These guys have an original sound and this song is an obvious single. the flow and lyrics of all emcees involved in this track sold it on it's own. I would not be surprised to see this track appear on the radio eventually. The chorus line hook worked and by the end of the song I was rhyming along. Good job!!!!
- ozflow from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 12Dec2003

Good!
1 - Performance - You can spit the rhymes. You don't ahve to cuss so much to get your point across, though. Try cleaning it up and do something different. 2 - Production - Very good. Good balance and sample usage. 3 - Who Do We Sound Like? Any of the Bad Boy acts.

Producer's Thoughts
Nice loud sound You sound like no one I know And if you are from the mid-west you know we got to represent. I got a couple of guy that say they are the illest too so we must keep the mid-west ill. Good Job

Straight up good hip hop
Great flow and lyrics. Backbeat is catchy as hell. The production of the song sound fabulous too. Pauses in all the right places - great sample placement. Only thing that could us a little help is the chorus - could use some strengthening.

YES, FINALLY A SOLID HIP HOP TUNE
Nice track! String spicatto is cool, nice sample. Third eye is open....funny line. its nice to hear someone with an ear for production as well as rhyme. Good work homie. Horns are dope! If those are horns I hear. Break up the song with a chorus in there at least once . Did i just hear an R.Kelly vocal sample? Nice. if you did all the production, good work. performance wise, its very well. Black Eyed Peas...maybe?
- dallaskruse from Costa Mesa, California on 12Dec2003

Well potential...
Samples in the beat are a bit too loud, but the beat is dope. Hands down the best song ive reviewed thusfar. Got skills on the mic...chorus is a little soft, prolly due to its length, but thats a small problem. The bridge could use a change, but im just being pickey now. Good Job, Midwest reppin!
