Bubbledubble: Glastonbury Assembly Rooms 2004
Bubbledubble is a mostly electronic, psychedelic ambient dub trio from the UK. The band is formed off electronics wizards Steve Bubble (who also plays guitar) and Andy Radburn with their laptops and the singer/harmonica player Kev Ellis from the legendary psych blues band Dr. Brown. This live CD-R was recorded 12.7.2004 at the Gong Family Convention at Glastonbury Assembly Rooms. Although this is only a semi-official release, the sound quality is good and this makes a very enjoyable listening. The band combines Hawkwind like keyboard walls, Astralasia styled sequences, heavily delayed guitars and laid-pack but deep dub rhythms in a great way. The whole package is very psychedelic and coated with nice space sounds. On a few tracks there are also some vocals, and Kev’s great voice is very suitable for this kind of music, as well. Some of the tracks remind me of Massive Attack, the less dub oriented stuff brings to mind even Tim Blake and Harvey Bainbridge. As Kev says before a track called “Ersa Minor”, you can go deep into space with that one. This is very nice about one hour long document and it endures well many listening times. You can get this album through Kev at magiccatradio@yahoo.co.uk. It would be really great to get an official studio release by this threesome soon!
