Review of Wickerman Festival 2005 (extract)
Up at the Scooter Tent, Kirkcudbright's Zachariah Toadstool had recovered enough from last year's mauling by the Daily Record to rip through a great gig before an appreciative audience.
The boys copped some - very unfair - flack from the Glagow rag for their gig on the Woodward Stage last year, but Paul Sinclair, Scott Maxwell, Harry Thomson, Bruce McKenzie and Chris Henry showed there's plenty of life yet in the "middle-aged rockers" - which was the kindest thing the Record had to say about them.
A crazy punk version of the Bay City Rollers' "Bye Bye Baby" had the 200-strong crowd jumping at the finale, a throaty Sinclair fair gi'ein it laldy.
The boys - 25 years together this year (the more senior members at least) are off on tour in October.
Bassist Scott Maxwell is currently resident in Hull, so the tour - inevitably - has been dubbed "To Hull and Back", taking in Galloway villages, across to Dumfriesshire, into England, down to Hull, then finishing off in Galloway, with a couple of local gigs.
