Sacred Spaces New Review
Currently the guitarist for the NYC-based group Indofunk, a band specializing in integrating Indian Raga forms with funk, grooves and modern jazz, multi-instrumentalist Lee Boice recently released an outstanding new guitar-based CD that strives towards and achieves a high level of musical exotica. Not since John McLaughlinıs work in Shakti has the guitar been so well meshed within a World Music fabric. With Boice leading the charge on electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards, synths and sitar, additional musicians, including Steve James (sarod, violin), Bill Buchen (percussion) and world renowned Indian musicians Badal Roy (Tabla) and Usted Sultan Khan (Sarangi) add in some incredibly convincing Indian-style flavorings.
Clearly inspired by traditional Indian music, the Boice guitar sound is no strangerto the world of blues, rock, pop and funk and the guitarist expertly weavesthese and other unique musical strains into the mix. A homegrown project with all the right elements to make it work, Sacred Spaces is superbly recorded and the albumıs accessible spirit and tone will no doubt help it reach across the isle to anyone leery of such a spectacular cross cultural musical merger. www.cdbaby.com/leeboice
