Geoff Davis - Ancient Wisdom Modern World
Soft, easy, folky with a bit of a progressive edge and laced with thoughtful lyrics comes this album from Geoff Davis, ANCIENT WISDOM, MODERN WORLD. Along with it's folky leanings, the album has it's raunchier, rockier (even bluesier) moments which highlight the diversity of an artist willing to go any which way, every which way. The album also features violinist Graham Smith, formerly of STRING DRIVEN THING, whose unique style fits in well with the songs written by Geoff.
The sound is reminiscent of bands like STRING DRIVEN THING itself (probably cos of Graham's input), FAMILY, RENNAISANCE, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY, and a number of others you probably won't recognize unless you are of the generation that such artists/bands come from. Whatever the case, this is a refreshing album, musical from beginning to end, that will grow on you with subsequent listens and keep you satisfied. Nothing disposable here. If you've been craving music with substance, you won't go wrong with this elegant collection from yet another artist daring to step out of the cage in order to create the kind of music that cannot be squeezed out of a mold of conformity. Once you've acquired the taste, you won't be satisfied with anything less.
