Very creative
Very creative and fun. Excellent intro and extro. I love the chorus, (music for surfing in the sand) I love the (forgot its name) instrument that gives the far east vibe.
I love the peice at mark 1:35
The bridge at mark 2:10 is excellent.
The lead vocal and backup vocals are good.
Overall good fun song.

Beach Boys drive out Insurgents !!
Choking on the sickly irony of this - at least I seriously hope its ironic... Its really quite well done in terms of arrangement and the way the lyrics are almost forced to work with a totally contradictory musical style !
1 - Vocals
The lead vocal wwas great and passiontately delivered . Perhaps a bit flatly produced and could have done with a nicer reverb, maybe some double tracking in parts.
2. - Backing Vocals
These were the bizarre star of the show for me. It was like the Beach Boys in Baghdad..! Very nicely sung. Again perhaps could have been produced more smoothly and given a fuller sound.
3 - Song .. well .. what can i say.. it was funny ! Perhaps it could be used as a sonic weapon to drive out insurgent strongholds !!

Beach in Baghdad
The band is tight and the vocalist is in tune.
I am not much for Christmas songs, much less anbiguos topical ones.
I think this is why the Beach Boys never did a song about Vietnam.

weird mix
vocals: a little annoying and in your face. sounds like your trying to be bon jovi or someone like that. not my style. but atleast u sing in tune.
backround vocals: interesting and not expectated. almost beach boys like. the different parts are nice. good work on that.
song: a weird christmas song. starts out with a middle-eastern riff...than the chorus hits and its a beach boys type of feel good pop song. the best part is definatly the pre-chorus. the most musical and unexpected. cant say i dig the words either. sorry. "christmas time in bagdad" doesnt roll of the toung.

Oh No
Sorry not into this at all.
Production is excellent.
Singing is superb excellent backing.
The players are all good.
But the lyrics are too controversial for me.
And as a song if I ignore the lyrics it is just above average as there are some nice sections with the vocals.
This will perhaps go down well in some places or as a novelty song it is no christmas classic though.
Also there is a noise at the start that should be removed. If this had different lyrics I would probably rate it more as it is quite original.

The Beachboys go religious!
YES! The Beachboys are back!
The song is funny, from lyrics to vocal characteristics. The voice isn't bad at all, but the backing vocals, regardless of sounding like BB or not, fail pitch here and there (check at 2.10). The song is fun, fun, fun, but the subject isn't what you'd expect for a track that intends to deal with uncompromised fun.
PS - There's also a section at Garageband called 'Comedy'.

War and Christmas sittin in a tree
The singer is really overdoing it on this one from the very beginning. He gets so into that it sounds insincere. The backing Beach boys type vocals are by far the best part of the song. "Christmas time in Vegas" is kind of a catchy line, but the song is very confusing lyrically. The lyrics are way too literal, which doesn't leave anything to the imagination-
Another war song? I would get away from that since everybody is doing it. Take the "Christmas time in Vegas" chorus and build a new song around it and it might be real fun--something less serious in tone would help...

Drama
It reminds me of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Vocals
The lead vox are right on key and performed with enthusiasm. Good Job.
This sounds like a stage play. The lead singer sounds like he came off the stage and into the studio.
Backing Vocals
Also sound vocally trained for the stage.
Song
Perfect for some kind of stage play.

Arabian Sexy
The intro is very arabian sexy...but what the hell after that? This is a joke song? The vocalist sounds like a Vince Neil wannabe at times, but I guess since he's approaching this in a comedic way, it works.
The hook is catchy and singable. The backing vocals are reminscent of The Beachboys. I can imagine all the guys at the company Christmas party putting their hands on each other's shoulders singing along with this.
Now, I don't really think this is going to go down as a classic Christmas song, but it will probably work until we get our asses out of Baghdad.

Christmas time?
It never fails to amaze me how many songs are made about a festival that predates the birth of Christ (Rome's Saturnalia, Egypt's festival of Mythra, all of which were held on December 25th.) Yet here is yet another song about it being delivered to someone to whom the festival of Christmas is nothing short of hypocrasy and farse. Normally I would switch it off, but I have to write a review so lets say for a start that the whole world is not your audience with this track.
Vocals however are supurbly delivered and backing vocals appropriately match. Going to give you bonus for vocals, I can't fault them at all.

POP? Sounds more like Jiffy Pop! I'm too busy trying to figure out if you got really long hair, or like a huge red curly fro.
This is soo 1970's.. as in like HAIR or one of them other Hippy Plays.
Too bad, because, it seems there's a message in there.

a real christmas song
A christmas song with a serious message but you succeed in keeping the joyous feel that you would expect to hear. That mixed feeling that you create makes this a very interesting and good listen. You sing it well and succesfully portray the thought provoking lyric. This is a very good and original idea.

Retro 60's
Reminds me of a Bobby Sherman song. I could hear this band singing on a 60's variety show. then about 2 minutes into the song, I realize that this is a religious song, at least in part. Very unusual combination.
Vocals are very 60's as well; Falsetto is weak. I don't really like the song, but the melody is strangely haunting.

ok but a bit dodgy
this track sounds a bit like a wonky osmonds type track - the iffy pitching from the vocalist at the start is jarring...
the sentiments are quite sweet. i like the beach boys backing sty-lee, they really lift the track up. also there is some imaginative instrumentation here. im not sure whether there is a market for this sort of music. sadly i found myself getting really irritated by this track as the melody is relentlessly repetitive.

Too bad on so many levels
Very unique style in singing. I think I'd have to listen to a few more songs and see what other types of things he does. He almost has this 50's, early innocense. The melody is interesting. I have to be honest, once you introduced the whole WWJD thing, you blew it with me. Get it together
This is not a bad song. Real Beach Boys feel. The vocal is very good in my opinion. Nice voice. Good backing vocals too. There are all kinds of timing problems right from the start. Noone is in time with each other. I think the drums sound too distant, maybe try less reverb on them. The only thing that's too loud about the drum is the hi-hat that comes in at around 1:20. That's distracting. I think the bass guitar needs to be much fatter. I really like the melody and the arrangement. Good lyrics. This is a familiar sounding song but I think it could really be great if it was rehearsed more and all the timing problems are fixed.

50's/early 60's
Reminds of bobby vee in the vocal and the harmony is very beach boys. Am a big fan of this sound but because of the retro-styling the song doesn't really stand out. I'd be really interested to hear what it sounds like with a more modern arrangement. The vocals are good but this sounds like something old rather than something new

Not enough bounce for pop
The doubled up vocals make this very bizarre. I wonder why you guys chose to put this in pop. It feels like a somewhat psychodelic 60's pop tune. A faint Beach Boys flavor. The execution is good. However, there is no catchy hook that those guys would have. For pop you need fast and easy accesible things. While this is relatively pleasant, there's no bounce to it and no catchy hook. You would need to pick up the tempo to achieve more pop. The long notes on the vocals make this slightly eerie and almost drone. Speed it up and try a repetitive chorus. Melodically it's not too original. The arrangement feels straight out of the 60's, not too much that surprising except the intro hits.

Back in the late 50's
This songs is really similar to a Beach boys'one . It creates a really california dream atmosphere. It can be used as a soundtrack for a musical a la grease. Vocalist is nice and fits the mood this song wants to transmit. Backing vocals comes nicely even though they are a bit flat more than one times. Production is quite good overall

Pseudo Beatles Pop
Woooooooohh........
That intro vox is so abrupt it almost scares you at first.
Interesting style for sure...
The vocals first impression was a turn off...almost too harmonized.
But it does grow on you and the lyrics are nice.
A very Beach Boyish Beatlesish vibe. Which never hurts.
This is an obvious vocal focal & lyric song and on its own the vocals and harmonizing hold up.
Its the rest that is holding it back. The heavy Midi Sound and lack of realistic tones make it very hard to enjoy.....
Summary: Song would best be suited
sung accapella. The instrumention takes away from what you built with catchy harmonies.
Either that or find some chaps who play to help you out.

Unique '50s-ish tune
The best part about the vocals is the high parts, which is odd because it's usually the other way around. The low parts are good too, but the high parts are REALLY good.
I can't say much about the music... it's pretty much average.
The lyrics are a little strange... the start is weird but it kind of levels off after that. I almost thought it was a comedy song at first, but it turns out it's not bad at all. It's got a bit of a message, and that's always a good thing.
Decent song, sounds like something out of the fifties... unique style.

Retro Pop
The Classic do-whap vibe gives this song its originality.
All vocals are well harmonized and the lead vocalist has the tone and inflection in his voice carry this song.
The Melody is classic do-whap and is an easy tune to hum along with.
The Arrangement fits the mood of this song. Overall this song has an interesting twist on the retro Top 40 sound of the late 50's and early 60's
Don't know if this would have a current market but you never know about the alternative Top 40, and there's always something old that turns out to be the new retro sound.

Interesting sound and message. This has a distinctly inpirational/religious lyric woven into a 50s/60s style love song ... now that's original. Good vocal tone. I didn't immediately get the arrangement, but this may resonate with the christian genre? Good luck.

This song sounds 60s and is nice. Vocals are perfect for the kind of song. The melody isn't that original but it's right in the target. The arrangement is good and the all song is nice. The second part is interesting. It's a sunny day song.

off the wall
i've heard some unusual songs since i started reviewing on garageband, but this one takes the cake.
the vocals-
remind me a lot of the pop songs of the early to mid sixties, with the harmonies and simple accompaniment. they fall slightly short of the skill level of those songs, but are not bad. they're not all that great either.
the melody-
starts out a little rough in the intro and then plummets into exceptional mediocrity. there's a reason this style was played out four decades ago and no one has really tried to bring it back.
the arrangement-
which is equally mundane, unaffecting, and kitchy would have struggled to make it onto the pop charts at the height of when this style of music was popular.
but the lyrics-
are what really stand out as unique and, to be completely honest, surreal. this could almost be classified as a pop hymn with it's overt references to jesus christ, love of the father above, etc. not your standard fare in the pop genre.
musically-
it sounds like the bass line is off beat, and the simple nature of the rest of the instrumentation leaves little else to comment on.
overall-
this song has a lot of potential as a novelty song, but really has no chance of making it up the charts.
i respect what you attempted to do here, i just wish you had done a better job of it.

A nice 60's vibe...
First of all this track reminds me of the pop-tunes of the 60's, the beach boys and burt bacharach.
I like the choir arrangement, it adds beautifully to the mood of the song.
The vocals suit each other, and brings to mind the arrangements of the beach boys.
I think this is a very honest pop-track, which contains all of the pop elements it is supposed to.

Well sung, but who listens to this sort of th..
Well, the very Beach-Boys-like vocals are well sung and are as good as anything I've heard in this genre. Unfortunately at times they seem to be a bit out of time with the music. The arrangement of the vocals is good, but the music is very basic and un-original. I think I preferred the first 15 seconds of the intro and last 10 seconds of the outro than any other part of the track, so maybe this would work better without any backing music at all. The lyrics are also old-fashioned and though they are okay for this genre, who actually wants to listen to this sort of thing nowadays?
- bryanpage from United Kingdom on 25Jul2005

Impressive vocals...
...for that "Beach Boy" thing, but the instrumentation doesn't work for the most part of the song. The intro is particularly good. The vocals could do with some more blending (see if Brian Wilson's free!), but they are very good. Re-mix or completely re-record the backing track and it could be REALLY something. Oh, and they're nicely arranged too. The song's a little bit kitsch, but I guess when you're doing the "Beach Boys" thing...The outro? Sweet, but nothing spectacular.

Let's go to the BEACH!!!
Somewhere Brian Wilson is smiling right now... this is a definite nod to the Beach Boys, although I have to admit - I never did like the Beach Boys - but I like THIS, how's THAT sound? Harmonies are ultra tight, multi-layered, and the song has that beautiful 60s feel to it, right down to the guitars and tamborines. I can almost feel the sand between my toes.

Surfs up
Beach Boys are in the building, get out your surf boards! And those harmonies are standing up very well in the barber shop tradition.
This artist is obviously having a great time living out our surfing friends influence and the enthusiasm is infectious, ingrained in the vocal performance.
A standard song with a whimsy and charm that carries it through to a successful conclusion and the smart notion of dropping out the instruments with those harmonies ringing in your ears to the fade out!
While much hay has been made on the vocals, the guitar seems a little thin here, not that you need anything extravagant as the vocals take the heat off. Tambourine reinforces the influences. Bass needed to be slightly more prominent.
This really could have been recorded in 1964. Is that what the artist was aiming for? It worked.
A great pastiche track I enjoyed to the end.

Classic Beach Boys
Jump back into the T-Bird, get your surf board outta the garage and listen to this song! A fun flare of a blast from the past. Great job on all the harmonies and vocals. My only thought is that this would consistantly be mistaken for an old song, nothing modern about it. That might take away any chance at radio play. That aside I really enjoted this!

Surf's Up - Sort Of...
The Beach Boys are BACK!
'Gag me' lyrics, especially the opening line.
Vocals are 'bitchin', as we might have said in 1965.
Harmonies are particularly good.
The band has asked for comments on: Arrangement? - Borrowed.
& Outro?
Outro is fine - You HAVE the harmony stuff DOWN, now concentrate on the lyrics.
I don't know why I so dislike these homages to famous past bands. It's a curious phenomenon, to want to produce something so close to what has already gone by.
Yes, you have done a decent job reproducing the Hawthorne Hawks sound, but the song itself is lacking the main element they usually delivered - A fantastic hook. Yours is okay, but far from fantastic...

Sounds wonderful, not original
I won't say the obvious things, since I am sure you are tired of hearing who you sound like. What a huge influence, and a great one to have. Let's just say that you have accomplished a great "influenced" sound.
Rest assured that this honest critique is humbled by your superior musical ability. Your arrangement is flawless, intonation spectacular, and the tune is quite catchy. However, I want to suggest a few things to help you distinguish yourself and become a little more unique while still keeping your influences strong.
The lyrics are a bit copy-cat. I understand the need to keep them classic with lots of "baby", "do run, de rub de", and "yeah, ooh" sounding stuff. That is the influences talking, and it sounds good. The "growing up is hard" and "just cry baby" is what sounds a little tired. Some less cliche lyrics would make a huge difference in my book.
The vocals are way too loud, and that is probably for two reasons. 1.) They are exceptional and you got over excited when mixing. 2.) The instrumentation is aweful. Some real instruments would help the sound a ton. Then you can bring down the vocal mix and things would sound more acceptable. Then when the instruments drop out during the outro (great, classy touch by the way), it would be even more effective.
If I was a producer, I would ask you "What are you trying to do with this?" If your answer is that you wanted to do a tribute to the Beach Boys, well...then job well done. Congrats! If your answer is that you are trying to make art, then as the producer I would say "Great demo. Go get some original lyrics and spend some money on recording with a band."
Good luck in whichever road you choose.

Outstanding Sound!
I LOVE the VOCALS!!!! Outstanding. This is an kncok off of the oldies and you've master the sound which is a very hard feat. (I know, I try) The beat is a definit dance tune and the melody makes you tap your foot.. which is good! The mix is obviously done by someone who is a natural at what he (she) does. Benefit of the Doubt.
If this act is a Beach Boys tribute act - you're doing a great job. If this is the one and only song you do that is a nod to the Beach boys then also - well done. If this is what you do all the time I'd advise you to try something original. This is at best a novelty track and for the many Beach Boys fans there are, I'm sure they'd rather listen to the original and best. Otherwise it's well rehearsed and performed, well produced and if you're sick of Beach Boys references, don't be so Beach Boys. Beach Boys, Beach Boys, Beach Boys.

Cool
The song obviously has gained a large amount of influence from the Beach Boys: 'Our Prayer' comes to mind with regards to the choral opening and vocal arrangement throughout. Short and sweet, the harmonies sound quite tight and the lyrics are typically Californian in the 60s sense of the word! The arrangement is pretty much traditional, guitars, drums, bass and percussion: the tambourines and cabasa (?) add extra rhythm when needed, definitely a thumbs up for the arrangement. The melody is light and could do with being a little catchier, but its certainly a great start. One criticism is the length: songs of this nature (including the Beach Boys back catalogue) are limited to 2.5 minutes at most, and some editing could be done to reduce the chances of the song becoming boring. The outro is great too however, the song in general featuring nice touches even if theyre not entirely original!

50 years late
The vocal harmonies are outstanding whether or not this a total Beach Boys rip off. I'm hearing Don't Worry Baby.
The individual vocals in the verse aren't so hot. They need a little more conviction and sweetness.
Unless these guys are making a living off paying tribute to the legendary BBs and they usually do all covers but had to submit this cos GB doesn't except covers, quite frankly, I'm pissed. It's like a slap in the face to copy the brilliance of Brian Wilson so blatantly and call it original. I mean, by all means, use elements of every one of your fav artists, there is no such thing as completely original in music but this is ridiculous.
Sorry to sound harsh but someone has to say something when we're supposed to be original artists. If you're a Beach Boys cover band, I apologize for my ranting... and you guys are really good.

its not just that its influenced by them, its that you've studied, internalised and reproduced the thick harmony sound to perfection, its almost unbelievable. As for the song, it sounds very 1964 Beach Boys, maybe just before Brian started getting artistic. It's a very good pastiche, but nil points for originality! However the line, 'desire is a pie, and she needs a plate'is pure genius.

Brian...did you get your memory back?
Jeez! I liked this, but man, you gotta be aware of the inevitable Beach Boy comparisons. That being said, a really good job of reviving an art that has been pretty much lost in pop music - four part harmony utilizing a falsetto soprano part. Not sure what else to say here...you're excellent mimics. You've even managed to get the lo-fi sound of Beach Boy era recordings including the oh-so-out-of-date drum fills and cheesy guitar tone. If you can now write something that doesn't sound like a Beach Boy review, you may get someone interested Orrrrr, you could always make a fortune doing what you do best: The Beach Boys

Nice vocals, interesting genre choice
This song is straight out of 50's or 60's. ALl the way down to the "do-ron, do-rons".
My only problem with it was that the tempo seemed to vary quite a bit throughout the song and some of the breaks seemed stilted percussion-wise. I'd fire the drummer. The vocals were very well done and overall I enjoyed the track.

B-Grade Beach Boys
Sounds like the Beach Boys right from the beginning. I wonder if this is a lost B-side? The harmonies are well worked out and seem to work quite well. There are some production issues; mostly with the fact that the main melodic vocal can't be heard very well in the mix. The harmonies are also way too loud. The main vocals also do occassionally go out of tune. So basically you have beach boys style tunes that aren't quite as clever, as well executed or as well sung as the original. I'm not sure what audiences would make of a B-grade Beach Boys.

Surf Rock is still alive.
This song must be a tribute to the good old days of Surf Rock, because everything in it is clearly inspired by Beach Boys, starting from the very well background choirs to the song's structure itself. A good job, because all the instruments have been played and recorded the way they would have been played and recorded in the 60s. I know just of a band who could have done better to recreate that atmosphere: the Dukes Of Stratosphear (Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding of XTC in incognito). Good job.

Beach Boys!
Is this the Beach Boys? It must be! Are they testing out a reunion album out on Garageband.com? You guys so nail this sound from the harmonies, to guitar sounds, to the verb on the vocals. Sheesh. You are so fooling me. Am I being punked? This must be the Beach Boys. If not - you must start a tribute band and make some serous cash in the clubs or on the fair circuit. Very nastalgic and a money maker.

This Isn't a Cover?
It's lovely, if you're a Beach Boys tribute band. But using influences and outright copying people are two different things, and this one falls into the latter.
The vocals have nothing to offer that Brian hasn't given us - and given us with more precision. Also, "just cry baby" is a cliche not really worth revamping for the 100th time. You didn't really just go "do ron do ron do" did you?
The arrangement is fine, though I would have liked to hear a section that got away from the key or style for a moment- something to break up the monotony. edit: upon hearing this for the 2nd time, I hear that you do have something along those lines. I guess it didn't have much of an impact on me the 1st time.
The outro is pretty, but it would have been nice to hear some more of those gorgeous dissonant intro chords again- especially after all that atonal harmony in the bulk of the song.
It's well done...but it's, frankly, well...done. You know?

Men 2 Manly Men? Meets Beach Boys
Great Harmony Boys! This is awesome. Ok, time to sound semi intelligent. It's just that I stopped and really enjoyed it like I was in my car and listening to the song of my choice, unfortunately something I don't get to do much while reviewing. The arrangement is thought out in spades. You know how we can all be lazy when we write. Not this, this is extremely ambitious. Outro was a nice sendoff.... People just don't write songs like this anymore. Why, they may think it is too classic or out of date. This should be a very pleasing track to anyone who knows anything about anything. Great SONG!

Just Cry
Good for you guys. I'm really impressed. You have the guts and musical savvy to tackle difficult vocal harmonies (like the Beach Boys, et al). Kudos! However, please fix the errant note (fifth note) at four seconds plus. Just a very minor point in this fine song. (Just copy what you did at 13 seconds).
I get another "Beach Boys" confirmation later with the phrase "doo-ron-doo-ron-day," and you can't go wrong emulating Brian -- his musical genius was special, unlike that of most of us.
Whoever is your composer is cut from the same cloth ... one with the tenacity to not only hear the notes of chords and their transitions, but to actually get this captured on paper or recording medium. This, alone, is worth a thousand stars of recognition.
Praise aside, I must also relate the problem at 23 seconds ... the break point to the body of the song. It's weak, guys, and sounds tentative, like you didn't know how to make it dynamic. I'll give you the answer: Phil Spector. Use Toms ... Doom, doo doo ... ba, doom, doo doom, ba ...
That will cure the stall at 27 seconds and ensure the momentum of the piece. A few other minor flaws can be easily addressed and this wil be the tune you first envisioned.
I can't tell you enough, how marvelous this is ... what you have done. This is great vision ... above all the crap one hears nowadays. And, I salute you for it. Thank you very much.

The Modern Day Beach Boys
Well, it is not everyday that you hear a band with the vocal strength (lead and back-up) that this band has going for it. Other than the outstanding harmonies I feel that the song is lacking energy and a good rhythm section. I understand the "genre" this music is psuhing itself into but bands, like songs, need integrity and clarity. That I just did not really find within this tune. Meldoy was fairly strong. At the very least, strong enough to keep this song afloat and the lyrics I found to be rather dull and boring.

Interesting Guitar sounds.
Vocals very Beachboyish. Wonderful Ooos and harmonies.
Great Mix and Sound. Very Fun. Right after the lead there is a pretty hard hitting guitar on the right -- a little distracting. (I know it's elsewhere in the song as well, but it's really noticable here).

Chorus -- I especially like the "I love You" round part.
Melody -- Good

Beach Boys Much?
Interested, just a little much. The recording isn't that great and the performances arent either. The vocals are off from time to time, especially when the harmonies come in. This kind of music should be left to the beach boys. Redeeming quality- If these guys were performing at a bar and everyone was feeling happy and have a good time, they would add to that element. A beatlesque influence on this song.
It reminds me of the late 60s. It's a very nice piece of music, with a pleasant melody. Vocals are very good and fit the mood of the song well.

No bad
Regarding to performances:
Very ingenious entering of bass guitars, soft and juicy timbre. Drums also sounds enough exactly and pleasantly. The rhythm guitar, on my opinion must be little muted, since it grabs attention from voice. For the rest, this is without claim.
The General timbre of mix is rather pleasing.
Vocal and back vocal little broken, but I think this is an idea of compositions.
Regrettably, I can not call the tune original, this reminds me Beatles. I think if you sing such style in 2005, it is necessary to add something new in style itself, possible new instruments or specific voice, effects. In the current type, this is simply repetition of old.
But from other side, if you not targeted to be a superstar, this is fits in for playing in restaurant or in evening party.
Good luck.

Fun Beach Pastiche, Production's a Problem
A good arrangement of a good song. That's a really nice, thought-through melody and the score does a great job supporting it. The band and production are dodgy though, and hold this back some I think.
First, teriffic vocal. I didn't hear a missed note, and that's a challenging, all-over octaves melody. It's a credit to your arrangement, too, that you bring in your full backing vocals early -- :36 or so -- and we don't tire of them. Just like Brian Wilson did it, a song like this kinda exists to show off its build, and this one's got it where it counts.
What it doesn't have, I think, is the tight, tight playing a studied arrangement like this requires. I thought the rhythm section was a bit weak throughout, with the sporadic hats and toms fighting the "and" guitar hits for pacesetting honors. (:26 - :32's a real trouble spot.) This really becomes a problem when you hit the instrumental break at 1:26 -- the tambourine's not keeping up, or (and is my face red if that's step sequenced) its rhythm's counterproductive to the bass and drum.
The instrumental break suffers from some mix issues too, I think, which plague the whole track to some extent. The rhythm guitar's really overpowering there, and everything has a pushed-to-the-middle feel to me. The heavy reverb you're using doesn't help -- I know it's a hallmark of this kind of thing, but damping some of those echoes would sure give your track more of a live feel and keep the parts from bleeding together so much.
On the upside, mix and playing issues are just correctable on your next session. The important thing is you've written and arranged a fun song that reminds us of some stuff yet stands on its own. I'll enjoy hearing a tuneup -- thanks for entering this.

FOR THE FIRST TIME
imeditately it sounds like something from the 70s or even 80s - when the vocals come in it sounds like modern day retro acts like 2003 meets the sixties? (there seems to be alot of this) the harmonies were tight! around 1:13ish the lead vocal starts to get a little flat, and when the guitar solos came in i was caught kinda off guard. i'm glad they didn't last long! this sounds like elvis costello and elliot smith and the beach boys and of course the beatles. i like the tamborine. the voicing on the word "today" and "say" is an awesome chord and awesome voicing. i haven't heard anyone else on garageband do anything like this and FOR THE FIRST TIME in my reviews you have a track I would like to hear MORE THAN ONCE!!! hooray! you did it! please send me a message on myspace i'd like to hear more: http://www.myspace.com/mikebritt

A pop song with a classic feel
You sound a bit like the Beach Boys, mainly the singing and melody.
The lead vocal is excellently sung, and I think the backing vocals are doing good harmonies there, perhaps a little too busy for my taste.
The melody has a classic sixties feel, I'm afraid I don't like your chorus, it's a bit of an anti-climax after a promising verse.
Overall the production is ok: the guitars and drums are a bit tinny, the vocals have been recorded well.

Beach Boys! Wow!
This song instantly had that gorgeous Brian Wilson feel to it, layered harmonies, tremello guitar, soaring lead ocal and all.
This actually sounds like it was recorded and performed 35 years ago. Just a really warm feel to it.
The vocals are very strong, uncannily channeling the voice of Brian Wilson. My only criticism would be that I don't hear too much individual character in the voice.
The chorus itself was wonderful though, really taking advantage of a talented vocalist and back up vocalists, it was arranged splendidly.
Overall, a very enjoyable listen!

the new beach boys!
The delay effect on the guitar gives the song a real Pink Floydish feel. Cool. I really like what you did whith the vocals. The harmony makes it sound like a 60's hit (it reminds me especially of the Beach Boys). You asked about the vocals? All I can say is: THEY'RE GREAT!!! 'Nuff said!
The melody sound really good except that the chorus sounds a little too much like the verse. The song is still very good, but a slightly modified chorus could make it a radio quality song (though I unfortunately don't know of any stations that play "new oldies"). Excellent work!

New age Jan and Dean..
Really gave me feeling of beach boys/Jan and Dean, with the way the vocals - espscially the high notes - are executed. The harmonies really just make this that Southern California surf chill sound. The fact that the vocals are about 90% is great to hear. The harmonies never waver in tone. The lead singer sound like one of the members of Moxy Fruvous. the whole song kind of reminds me of a song by them called 'Fly', but a bit faster. Melody lines is solid and interesting. juke box gold
A great juke box chunk of american rock n' roll - with a heavy thumping bass lick, Beach Boys harmonies and that 45rpm record feel - I can easily see this playing on the car radio, in diner juke boxes, and at retro proms all over the world. A great nod to the 60s with a 70s fuzzy electric guitar solo. The lyrics "Hey, let's begin today - to put the past away" struck me as a bit humorous - as the whole sound of this song is very retro - but that's just my wacky sense of humor creeping in - pay no attention. Beach boys?
I absolutely love the harmonies. It sounds very very Beach boys but who cares since it's so good. Especially the falsetto vocals are great and accurate. The lead melody is just OK on its own but with the harmonies it's brilliant.
The chorus is cool but cant help to think that the versrs are better and therefor takes a bit the edge off the chorus.

I think the song is pretty good, but i'm not a fan of the drum reverb thing go. And i don't think the guitars sound very good. But the vocals are very good, and the harmonies as well. I don't like the recording quality very much. It sounds like the guitar panned to the right has way to much compression or something and a tremelo effect maybe that i don't think is very appropriate. But the song is solid enough.

four season beach boy rascal shondell associa..
Deeply 60's entrenched boy band vocal harmony and production, this is extreme purist retro. Beautiful and gushily authentic-sounding sounds all around. Cool more modernized instrumental passage. Comments per band request: Lush, thick and complex vocals, melody and arrangement are all extra trad-fine and comprise a loving tribute to those like golden oldie smash hits from back in the day. Recommendations: Level down the high EQ a bit, especially on the guitar-- it's often so crisp, it sizzles and detracts from the swell swoony romantic feel. Maybe back-off a little more here and there on the thick backup vox, as they're so prevalent and thick that they may tend to suffocate and drown us. Leave a little more room for the dynamics of breathing. Other than that, if capturing that old vibe is totally what you were after, don't do any more, because you are successful. But if entering into 2006 is part of the plan, you'll need to change/add something. Maybe a touch of modern effects, or a subtle loop or sample? It doesn't take much, but will distinguish the tune much better from being something that could have easily been recorded 40-years ago. Great job, and good luck!

Take me back anytime...
Retro 60's folk anthem amazingly performed in style and production of the era. Brian Wilson inspired harmonies over strong lead vocal reminiscent of Mamas and Papas. Lilting guitars (Rickenbackers, very likely) chime with verb and trem and flow over beautiful complex background arrangements, and spot on delivery. More than just a "lost track" that effuses nostalgia, this is an affirmation that new songs can be crafted in the vingage soundscapes of the classic age. This simple but revolutionary idea is welcome to this reviewer as there aren't any more songs coming from that time...until now. I love it.

VERY well done. not original, but very good.
60's. Beach Boys. Big time.
It's very well done. The melody is great. The harmonies are amazing. Really.
i think maybe this is a little TOO Beach Boys. It doesn't really have anything new to say about that style.
That said, it's very well played and sung. I like the way the drums come in at the chorus. And that little echo percussion in the bridge.
i mean, if I had heard this on an oldies station i wouldn't have thought it was out of place AT ALL. It's almost a little spooky that way.

Obvious Love
I think I reviewed this artist before, and if it's the same person, then it's pretty much what I said before.
This is a great Beach Boys pastiche, with an obvious love of that group shining through in the vocals. The percussion and simple verse arrangement takes us back to "Smile" and "Pet Sounds" with the chorus a more elaborate 70's AOR production.
It really could be the Beach Boys. I wouldn't be shocked if that was the same guy doing all the harmony parts, as they're so tight. Is he in a tribute band by night?
The instruments, though very authentic 60's sounding, could benefit from a modern thicker sound. Some nice appeggio runs on the verse by the way.
But well done. A fine achievemment in melody, charm and down-right homage!

when I hold you in my arms
Big vocals in the background. Sounds like the school's a cappella group teams up with their instrumental buddies.
I think I can hear an influence. The Association - "Along Comes Mary" gets sappy. This time "Away goes Mary." A boy loses girl song.
With all the work on the background vocals I think he/they should have used real drums. Definite Beach Boys influence at the end.
Production and mixing are good. Musicality is top notch. Lyrically, stunted though. The same old boy complaint about losing, but no twist. Does the music make up for it? If you like choir music it will.

truth
Vocals are strong and have reverb.
Sound very open and warm.
Melody is Beetles or beach boys originated. i like the feeling it gives off. Arrangment is very classic. I think of this as not Alternative but Classic Music Great song gives off a good Classic feeling with an updated accoistic chord. I like it High Grade.

An Origenal Start
nice use of percusion in begining. The b'gs in the house or is it the beach boys? Bassist can groove. Great sound you all, thee music is modern, but the vocals are not. Good souhnd and great ideas I think if you sang the lyrics a little differnetly but kept the back ups the same it wouldbe something really different and new. go for that new alternative emo sound in main melody and keep the b'g back ups.. Its an Idea... You guys got something here.. vocals make it a little to old school. tie the old with the new and you might start a new trend. a + recording and mix.

Looking at the push button gear selection
the production is excellent, I just do not know exactly what to think of it, I feel that it is a period piece from the 60s that is not bad just strangely cool to hear today.

return of the beach boys
This is an interesting song -- the sound is very reminiscent of the beach boys. Perfect summer soundrtack mood. Great harmonies and really nice musical arrangements. The lyrics are pretty good and I like the way the lead and backup vocals work together without always having to be in synch. I'm not sure how well this would do on mainstream radio, but I really like it. Kudos to you for not being afraid to step off the beaten path.

Wish I knew
The beach boys are still alive !!!! Great job you guys. Must have been fun to make this record. Sounds old but interesting. Great vocal work. Love is flowing from my heart. Can't you feel it. I want to see you guys live at at malibu beach in front of Geffens place. Good work A++++

Oooh Hoooh
The guitar effect is nice, but it sounds a little thin. The delayed bell is cheap. The vocals and choirs remind me of older days, but not in the worst way. The melody is even that cheesy that I probably like it. Not too bad.

Can't You
Great feeling to this flashback to the sixties. Brian Wilson would be proud. Bass seems a little high. Nice instrumental flourishes.

nice arrangement-vocal harmony-melody lacks
alot of work went into this arrangement ---good harmony in the background....however the melody is somewhat weak even though there is obviously a melody.......still a good production and well done.........

Mama Beatle Spree
I like the use of harmonies, but I fear it may be too much. The rest of the band actually gets lost behind the vocals (which is a first for me). I like the interaction between the bass, drum, and tremelo guitar. There is almost so much emphasis on the harmonies that I lose the melody in places. Just turn them down in the mix and it'll be right where it needs to be.

big gorgeous tones...
wow, 60s rock, early beach boys harmonies.. large tremlo guitars.. (and I mean HUGE) really interesting guitar sounds. Sound very retro. Almost Burt Bacharach in feel. Really an unusual mix of sound and timbers. Harmonys in the vocals are top shelf.. really intricate Oooos and aaaaaahhs... in the nicely arranged song. Just really nice..
Very short 3:22, but very satisfying. I can't decide to buy a ticket to Cali and go surfing or go to the liquor cabinet and make a martini and toast Burt.
In the mean time I am going to hit repeat and enjoy this piece one more time.. I suggest you do the same.

review
well i like this one - this is very retro - has that late 60's mama's & the papa's/beach boys vocal thing going - which they got from a late 50's influence - the melody was strong - the arrangement was good... song flowed nice - the production was very strong & captured that retro vibe very well - the band performance sounded very tight with a nice laid back feel - good job with this track - i enjoyed the listen

Wouldn't it be nice
The lead vocals sound pretty good. This Beach Boys like vocal effect was ok to me untill the backing vocals came in and it just seems like a direct copy. I could think of worse people to copy I guess. The guitar tones are cheesy. This is very melodic and the instrumental break is nice enough, but some originality would be nice, wouldn't it?

Gifted
Clearly a very gifted composition with talented musicians. The beach Boys are an obvious reference here but so too many popular motown acts. The current vogue for retro makes this a nice contender and whats more even your grandma will like it. Well done everybody. Vocals -good tone good vibe. Melody - put flowers in my hair -nice
Arrangement - tres cool. Clearly some knows what they are doing and the production value is high.

Do more with less and go further
Too much continual background sha-na-na group vocals. I lost track of the lead vocal and melody. Instrumental section came to soon for me and seemed unrelated. This production/arrangement seems to be too Partridge-like, and you could do so much more. I like the song (verse melody structure), but I'd rather here a more basic track without all the swooning. I mean, more lead vocal, strong guitar, some bass, and maybe a little keyboard... period. To me, this is a overproduced. Sometimes less is more and I think your basic solid melody could go further. I do miss hearing a more contrasting bridge to bring the song to a stronger level for the listener.

A little much for me
I found a little to much backing vocals and don't think you need the wodden block clicking in there. I did find myself getting more into the song as it went along. Cool melody but honestly I wish there were les backing vocals I found it distracting. It reminded me of some Beatles stuff put also, and please don't be offended The Partridge Family. Overall I wasn't all that thrilled but that is just my taste. There were some cool guitar tones that I liked.
