After sitting down to speak with Higher Zenith new Shine staff writer Rachelle Mishann realized that this was definitely the case. Rock Group Higher Zenith members Christain, Giovani, Bryan and Igor took time out to discuss their past, present and future.
"Powerful," is the one word used by bassist Bryan to describe the band, and it’s true. What creates this power? Chemistry. However, it wasn’t always that way.
exGuitarist, Pachi, remembers a time in high school when he started a group with Brian and an old band member Steve-O, "a high school not going anywhere kind of band."
Realizing it wasn’t going to work, they put up an ad at Guitar Center, and Christian, now lead singer, answered it. And as Pachi puts it, "…he led us to victory, to the gold!"
After adding Igor, guitarist/sound engineer, and Giovani, drummer, the band was on their way to that “victory."
Based out of Ft. Lauderdale, HZ spent most of 2003 touring across the country spreading their new and original sound to the rock genre and gaining fans along the way, according to Igor.
If you still don’t believe they’re good, know that that they were chosen to open for Creed and Def Leopard at large arenas. Drummer Gio was awarded second place out of hundreds, in a statewide drummer competition.
Just like with many other bands, it hasn’t always been big arenas, it’s a struggle. So what keeps them doing what they do?
“There’s a lot behind that answer,” says Pachi.
“I think it’s the chemistry between us that’s helped us and that’s bonded us to the point where we argue but we don’t take it home," says Bryan. "We have our differences… but we don’t let that take control of our friendship.” As the rest of the band nods in agreement.
They may have totally different personalities, but they all have one thing in common, their dedication to music. In the future they still see themselves playing music. Whether packing stadiums or still playing clubs and small bars, “…we have goals but we also do it because we like it…there’s no gimmicks…” says lead singer Christian.
I also asked them probably one of the most important questions in the music industry; “Will you sell out?” They answered a unanimous, “NO.”
“We are an ever evolving band. We aren’t going to follow what everyone else does,” says Christian.
Their final message for the public is that, “If people are tired of this society which pushes music into them, forces them to listen to crap on the radio. Start listening to indie music. Not music because it is on MTV seven days a week…listen to something because you genuinely like it…” says Christian.
With their motivation, down to earth attitude and hot live performance style, it’s obvious that they are on their way to their own “Higher Zenith.”
