Pree CD - 'A Style of My Own'by Mary Rudy
Pree possesses an unique high voice matched with an high energy coming from every note of her voice, her vocal sound is beyond anything I have ever heard. She is constantly on key, no tithering back and forth, no shakiness to the vocals from strain, I mean she has strong, vibrant, high vocals that any female singer would die for. Backing Pree in the Instrument Dept. are the best in the business, these professionals are just as superb as Pree is in the vocal dept. And when sounds like this come together, along with a special lady that can belt out those notes, it's no wonder you end up with a cd project like 'A Style of My Own', perfect vocalization, perfect instrumentation, perfect engineering, perfect sound and perfect producing. And that is where its at, that is what produces stardom and fame. And boy is Pree's star shining ever so bright. There is not one bad song on this CD, there are all styles of tunes on this cd that is for all people. Do yourself a favor and visit Pree's website at http://www.geocities.com/motown1968/Pree.html and while you are there, Purchase Pree's 'A Style of My Own' CD, and check out the following:'The Lady in Red' shows right off the top what Pree is capable of doing vocal-wise, coming in with high ranges and leaving you with a R&B soulful feeling. 'Stop Runnin' After Me' is a tune that will keep your foot tappin'. Excellent material. 'Drive' is a cover song but Pree makes it sound like its hers. Awesome job!!! 'I'm Feelin' in Love' could fall on the lines of R&B jazzy tune. Definitely a song for a romantic evening with candles and an fireplace.'Can't Help Loving' has that R&B upbeat tempo. Nice!!! 'Cry Me a River' is my all-time favorite, and Pree belts this one out with no problem at all. Excellent vocal range and superb instruments. 'Why Has it Come to This' is the soundtrack from the movie 'Ravenhawk' and Pree totally does it justice.Pree brings 12 angles of the heart into this cd which is nothing short of elegant, soulful and absolutely mesmerizing in these flawless tracks. Pree's music, will surely become an important part of the Music Industry.. And the reason behind her success is simple, Pree has the professionalism to know what it takes in talent and accomplishments, good musicians and an producer to get out there. She has done all this and will for sure put her mark on the world. No matter where Pree performs she is noticed for her energetic music and professional stage presence . She certainly has caught the attention of this reviewer...........

January 9, 2003

New documentary finally gives Motown Studio Fraternity, "The Funk Brothers", their dues. The lineup included the incomparable bassist - James "Igor" Jamerson, bassist - Bob Babbitt, keyboardists - Johnny Griffth, Joe Hunter, Earl "Chunk of Funk" Van Dyke, percussionist/vibist - Jack Ashford, drummers - Uriel Jones, Richard "PistoStanding In The Shadows Of Motownl" Allen,
Benny "Papa Zita" Benjamin, the guitarists - Joe Messina, Robert White, Eddie Willis, Dennis Coffey and percussionist - Eddie "Bongo" Brown. Sadly the session player's identities remained unknown for decades except to hardcore music junkies, mainly British fans. The film is currently showing all over the country and was recently nominated for Grammy awards in
BEST TRADITIONAL R&B VOCAL PERFORMANCE: "What's Going On", Chaka Khan & The Funk Brothers and BEST COMPILATION SOUNDTRACK ALBUM: Standing In the Shadows of Motown - Various Artists. The show is scheduled to air February 23, 2003. Another thing the film underscores is the timeless quality of the music the Funk Brothers made. Joan Osborne, Gerald Levert, Bootsy Collins, Chaka Khan, Montell Jordan, Meshell Ndegeocello and Ben Harper are shown singing classic Motown numbers. The background singers in the film, CHEROKEE PREE , Carla Benson, Keith Benson, Misty Love, John Ingram and Delbert Nelson are all great singers as well. Trailers from the film are located at: http://www.StandingInTheShadowsOfMotown.com

CD Review, A Style Of My Own, Rock/Pop
What a way to bring in the millennium. A Style of My Own is a beautiful recording. Pree's voice is unique and enchanting, and can warm the coldest heart. She elevates Prince's "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and Maxine Brown's "Oh No Not My Baby," taking both to new plateaus. Captivating romancers like "The Lady In Red," "You've Gotten To Me," and "I'm Feeling In Love" are lush and silky, like vintage Smokey Robinson or Ron Isley. Even the few midtempo and upbeat tracks float like musical bars of ivory. PREE overdubbed most of the background vocals, but gets help on some from Caroline Crawford, Dee Dee McNeil, and Farrah, Haven, and Blair McMurray. The album also features an ace production job by Clay McMurray and a stunning cover photo by Dan Guttierez.
