‘Second Wife’ starts with one of the best riffs Led Zep never wrote. It’s just MASSIVE. It makes me want to TYPE IN BIG CAPITAL LETTRS. But I know how annoying that is.
But believe me, it is a beautiful thing. It has a lot of bite, the guitars are nasty and there’s good deal of attack on the big, stompy bass. The drums are slightly letting the side down, as they don’t quite pack out and emphasise it they way they really should, but it still sounds bloody marvellous.
If I had a riff like that I’d leave it till the end of the song and ride it relentlessly into the trance-rock sunset. Last Nerves, on the other hand, follow a different path. Suddenly the riff stops and we’re into slightly eccentric lo-fi harmonised cowpop territory. It’s not too bad, I suppose. It’s actually a bit too nice and jaunty and poppy for me to properly judge it. This sort of thing leaves me a bit bamboozled, to be honest. However, I can say that it is beautifully produced and solidly written and very catchy and oddly welcoming. The falsetto chorus works really well and the vocals are good – there’s a nice, lazy, Mike Wattish drawl about them. Too high in the mix, though.
But lookee here. I’ve said many time that I’m not really a big lyric man, but listen out for the ‘There are three things overrated’ line… Them’s good wordin’ right there, boy. A man I respect a lot once said: ‘Vocally, valid choices are three: tell a story, make stupid noises or say something f*ckin’ profound.’ I’m not sure whether this line really qualifies, but at the least it comes close.
I’ve just realised that there have been several instances in this review where I’ve been writing as Sam Elliott in The Big Lebowski. I think I like this track more than I’ve let on.

Possibly the perfect blend between a Black Sabbath and Tom Petty tune. The growling intro to the verses reminds me a lot of old school Black Sabbath. Then, just when I thought this was going to be a heavy song, you guys break into a nice mellow rock beat with some very good lyrics and vocals. I LOVE THE LYRICS!!!!!! The little guitar lick in the middle of the song is very well executed as well.
I thought the song kicked ass! The only thing that I would suggest, if I may, is to maybe rethink singing the nevernevernever part more in the range of your vocal ability. You have such a cool ass voice, and when you take that line up an octave, it doesn't sound like you were comfortable with it. Just a thought..
All in all, very cool song. I'll definitely be watching for more songs by you guys!
This sounds like something that The Mamas and the Papas might have concocted – or maybe Sha Na Na. The guitar has a happy early-to-mid 60’s feels, a happy mood that is quickly and seriously challenged by the opening line! It’s not ‘…hop in my car…’ but ‘…stay away from mine shaft!’
Indeed, the lyrics sound very tongue in cheek and yet somehow ominous. As I was listening, I was wondering, ‘Is this song based on some ecological disaster? Was Mariane a child who died in a mineshaft? What is amber #2?'
Must be based on some mining community mishap is my best guess.
These questions bother me as the very acidic sounding leads cuts through the mix like a buzz saw through a loaf of American whole-wheat bread.
Now I feel doubly ignorant, ‘everybody’s’ writing books about IT and I don’t even know what IT is! Ah, what a thing is social ignorance.
Okay, reaction. This has a jarring feel. It’s like there’s a piranha in the gold fish bowl.
Dry as Jet, driven as The Pistols, sincere as Patti.
You are right in the pocket with The Strokes, White Stripes and the whole post 70's Punk, early Stones / MC5 / WHO / Runaways movement. ( If there is such a thing ) Damn solid track!

I really enjoyed the whole feel and mood of this song. i would definately listen to this again. i really liked the vocalist's almost-to-the-point-of-drunk vox. your voice in particular is pleasing to my ear. rough like Dinasour Jr. I especially like the higher pitch back-up vox after each verse. It reminds me a Rentals song, 'Friends of P'. It's very garage-hits-Weezer. The intro has an Indie rock meets Black Sabbath feel to it and it genuinely cool. Production is def. garage. The vocals, "When we die...We ain't goin' nowhere.." remind me of the Stones. Very cool song. Here's your grades:
originality 1.9 out of 2.0, i personally like how you combined a bunch of different reminders to make a great song!
production 2.0 out of 3.0, garage sounding songs can only reach this max grade, i feel.
lyrics/vox 2.3 out of 3.0, well-written
instrument usage/performance 1.8 out of 2.0
8.0 out of 10! very nice... You have easily won MP4! Status with 'Second Wife'... I am going to download it when I get the chance...I don't download many from Soundclick. You'd be the Second. Keep up the good work!

This is a good example of what can be achieved if one applies one'self. I loved this song. It was so frustrated and bitter that it could probably only appeal to me and a handful of others.
I don't recommend any mods listen cause it does have bad words in it, and a generally bad attitude.
The vocal is a cheese-grater up the spine and the lyrics are perfect.
For those who love good production and pristine engineering, you're gonna have an aneurism if you listen to this song. It sounds like it was recorded under a couch, but somehow you can hear everything realatively clearly.
There is a lead break in the middle that Neil Young is probably kicking himself in the groin for not using.
This is my new all-time favorite song. Glad you got the link fixed.
