COPPER
"My vote goes too Ethnofobia
Ethnofobia: Lovely brooding start mate feel like im being watched from afar, your managing to create excellent atmospherics at the moment.Reminding me alot of Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works 2 stuff...The underlying beat is nice and hypnotic...half way in and you've still got my attention, good work was admittedly daunted by a 9min+ track. Very impressed with this track overall and certainly feel hypnotised and edgy!"

"ethnophobia... this one's a seriously solid piece of unsettling ambient, there's a definite Aphex Twin-esque sound going on in the background, and what is that... clarinets in there somewhere? This one's really well put together, just as I'd expect it to be coming from you. This track put me right where I like to be when I'm listening to this kind of music
I'm going for Xdugef on this one. I want to marry his low end"

"ethofobia: Good ambient track. Like all the background noises. Seemed to drag on a bit too long, though. My vote: xdugef. Very close."

"I think both of these tracks are in the more 'contemplative' end of the noise/industrial scene. For me, xdugef's track is much more relaxingly drone based generally than ethno's. I'm thoroughly enjoying the softer digital crackle and the slighty a-rythmic use of low sounds to keep the attention going right through. I probably shouldn't be saying this in a Skull Krushing contest, but I find xdugef's track is a perfect chill-out piece for me at the moment. I'm not saying it's mellow, but it has a certain soporific quality with no sense of menace to it at least for me.
Ethno arrived very late on for this contest, so I'm familiar with ethno's Copper track enough to know that it is not a relaxing listen and it still brings me a sense of unease and slight anxiety. Yes, it's a helluva length an' all! I was trying desperately hard to remember the name of a really early experimental electronics album by Andy Mackay (the electronic woodwind player who made the slightly disturbing atmospherics which you hear the echoes of on later Roxy Music tracks like the intro preamble to their track Ladytron or even that similar discordant atonal feeling running through The Bogus Man track from Roxy's For Your Pleasure album). A lot of ethno's music speaks to me about modern alienation as far as I can see. There's a nihilistic streak to it that is quite disturbing, but it's not hopeless, just a bit bleak like a deserted factory.
Anyway I digress - and I don't want to lump ethno's stuff in any kind of pansy ass artsty-fartsy pigeon hole just because it's intelligently made and not blatently "distorted" sounding. I have a feeling that the other industrial battle he's setting up will be more about emotional/experimental approaches than good old bludgeon, which is a good thing to showcase that side of industrial stuff.
Vote is : ethnofobia - even though I find this track quite depressing"

"Okay, writing in notepad as I listen - not wanting to look at anyone's ideas or votes before hearing for myself. I've been waiting eagerly for a chance to vote on this battle, though.
Ethnofobia first. At almost 6 minutes in, I've reached the conclusion that this is likely to be a pure atmosphere piece. Very paranoid, psychological, and creepy. Part of me is hoping that this is like those flash files, where they tell you to look for the differences between two pictures then abruptly show a bloody face and play a blood curdling scream. Something like that around 8:45 in with a light cooloff period would really krush the skull. While I'm really feeling this and digging it very much, I really wanted something more in the spirit.
The other psychologically minded krushers can learn a lot from what you just did.
xdugef is next. Noisy, bass-heavy mix to start. 6:11? I'm going to get a snack. Ooo. This part around :38 in caught my ear. This is harder, and harder is good. It's also way too full on the bass side, with so much more that could be happening elsewhere.
Well, both are very well put together in the way that if you pay attention, you can hear the subtle changes become big changes. Ethnofobia almost seemed to be playing it safe without venturing into the harder sounds, and xdugef seemed to be playing it safe without venturing out of them. So, I'm going to give this one to the better mix, as it's really the only separating factor.
That goes to ethnofobia."
