Brand New Jalopy
The cartoon cd cover shows a woman in a lotta reddish hair, in not much of a denim bikini, standing over the huge engine of a classic car with fire on the side of it. She's smiling. 'Little Annie ìRock-n-Rollî' has got an attitude. So says the first of 60 minutes of rock from 4 guys called Brand New Jalopy. 'She likes to party, to stay out late is quite predictable / She goes upstairs to have a cigarette / out her bedroom window.'

Whereas the production and mixing is a bit mono-oriented, the performances suffer from nothing.

Joe Rotoli 'Jalopy Joe' - vocals, rhythm guitar
Dylan Mathews - lead guitar, vocals
Dan 'the Man' McDowell - drums, vocals
Tim Drisko - bass, vocals

Got enough vocals there? Well, listening to 'Leave Me Alone' and its 5 minutes of elder rock: simple, kicking, running on personality and fingers and intrinsic rhythm, well, I'm taken back to the Stones I love. There's a gritty soulness present, as well as half a country hero in here, blending these 13 songs with so many different genres, it's hard to tell which one dominates.

'Take Me Back (Where the River Flows)' has the singer further away from the mic than the instruments, but it's a kick in the head that's a whole lotta fun, so never mind the make-up. The guitars and drums and the Gut of the piece never stop. Like a live Neil Young boot, this shows the sharpness of the group, what to expect when you come across 'em at the club. 'I saw you today for the first time, in a long time / you kinda look the same / Everything about you hadn't changed / faded jeans and a faded face.'

Yeah, the only thing these guys lack is a little extra cash for the polish. They've got the apple. No worms.
