artist: dadala
title: brane forest
-----------------------------------------
structure: 9/10
minimal conga or something beat in background, layered ambient noises, a stray cat type flute making an appearance every now and then. adding up nicely to create a vibrant, organic texture.
instrumentation: 9/10
great sounds ranging from scrambled samples of kitchen noises and squeeking kitten to diverse experimental synth noises. especially liked the organic overall feel of things.
emotional climate: 9/10
yet again this track scores highly. imagine yourself lost deep in an alien forrest brimming with exotic creatures. love it!
originality: 9/10
while much of 'brane forrest' might not be so novel when looking at the detail, the whole creates quite a novel atmosphere. had me convinced right from the start.
production: 8.5/10
very professional feel to it, well balanced mix. maybe an edge more of a spacial presence of the flute might have been nice, but thats just being picky
overall: 9/10
very nice indeed. excellent job there, dadala!
highly recommended!

this is very very interesting! i´m on my third listen. and i still don´t get it. i have a feeling i´m going to get addicted to this one.. like i said.. i don´t get it. i don´t know what it sounds like. maybe if john zorn and brian eno met in the twin peaks red room and had an improvised musical conversation something like this could be produced.. but that´s not very likely. this music is not very likely.
i´m on my fourth listen. i am very impressed by this.. i sound like a jerk, but i can´t help it. i am definately addicted. i´ll put this one on a cd, and listen to it everyday until i´ve one completely insane.
reverend dadala will in seconds be added to my soundclick.
i´m on my fifth listen..
sounding somewhat chaotic in the layering of different material, which actually i liked!
just enough of the unfathomable to constitute what i consider serious art. some free jazz type saxophone, ambient atmospherics and a layer of percussions as it seems all playing at different tempos, if any
maybe a bit more variation of climate at 6:35 playing time would have been nice to have though.
instrumentation: 8/10
some very strange and original warped sounds which i assume derive from playing the tape machine.
[note from RD: The tape speed manipulation only applied to the slit drum track. The "strange and warped" sounds you heard were probably my synth/sound module programming, played with a lot of real-time modulation affecting various parameters. The electronic piece that was incorporated was largely an excercise in the programming and use of controllers.]
emotional climate: 8/10
again we have that light, airy at the same time nervous feel i came to notice with ghost grinder.
originality: 8.5/10
a very unique melange of all sorts of musical influences
production: 8.5/10
a professional mix as i have come to expect with this guys pieces
overall: 8/10
barely missed the 8.5 mark there ... this being the 3rd track of richard dunlap i had the pleasure to review, he has quickly found his place in my list of favourite soundclick artist. this track might maybe best be classified as ambient though truth is this basically will fit no category.
recommended listen!
nervous, complex, multi-layered percussive background, jazzy sax, some tribal vocals creating a great atmosphere. around 2:20 we get a change of climate with things getting a very airy feel carrying us through the second half of this track.
instrumentation: 8/10
a broad variety of sounds within the percussive section, sax and vocals, some spacial synth atmospheres. good choice of instruments!
emotional climate: 9/10
warm, tribal, immaterial... images of breathing music, bouncing molecules coming to my mind
originality: 9/10
very original indeed! which would have to be for above mentioned airy quality which i have simply not heard before like this with any other artist, apart from maybe some of refrags work
production: 8/10
spacial, well-balanced mix
overall: 8.5/10
me i am simply a sucker for nervous complexity, so this track was right down my alley. very enjoyable and inspiring! a piece so light it will take all weight of your shoulders.
highly recommended!
